Work on a new council housing development, which is set to deliver dozens of affordable homes in a Leeds community, has reached a key milestone.

00:05A project commenced around the time this footage was taken,
00:09delivered via Leeds' Council Housing Growth Programme,
00:12which has built or acquired hundreds of homes in recent years.
00:16Now, a significant step forward for the housing scheme has been announced,
00:20with the first seven houses completed and handed over to tenants.
00:24It's part of a development of 82 houses and apartments,
00:27which are expected to be completed this winter.
00:30The finished scheme will comprise 55 houses and 27 apartments,
00:34with a mix of one, two, three and four bedrooms.
00:38All of the properties will be available for affordable rent by council tenants,
00:42described as an important boost for an area where there is high demand for housing
00:46that meets a range of needs.
00:49Individual air source heat pumps are anticipated to give tenants welcome assistance
00:53with the cost of living,
00:55and around 4,500 square metres of public open space is being created
00:59at the site, which has lain empty since the demolition of the former
01:03house-side high school buildings.
01:06The majority of the funding for the scheme is being provided by the council's housing service
01:10via right-to-buy receipts and borrowing,
01:13with £1.64 million of grant support from a Brownfield housing fund.
01:18The announcement comes as approval has been given for 21 homes on a vacant plot of land
01:23off Queenswood Drive in Kirkstall.
01:25A four-storey building will house 15 one-bed and six two-bed apartments.
