Last Saturday, Krystle Sandiford, and four 14-year-old children narrowly escaped serious injuries after their vehicle was struck by a stray bullet on Wrightson Road in Port of Spain.

00:00A police officer had opened fire with his licensed firearm after he was attacked by
00:04a homeless man at a nearby park.
00:07The suspect was not shot, but was eventually subdued with a taser.
00:12The police officer involved in this incident was treated for injuries sustained during
00:16the ordeal and is said to be at home recovering.
00:19However, while she was grateful that no one in the car was injured, Sandy Ford's vehicle
00:24was damaged during the ordeal.
00:27This morning, DCP Junior Benjamin, Senior Sup Thum and ASP Ram Logan visited Sandy Ford
00:34at her home along Duncan Street in Port of Spain and assured her that the TTPS was conducting
00:40an investigation into the incident, following which they will attempt to remedy her situation.
00:47Speaking with TV6 this morning, Sandy Ford said that one of the four children in her
00:52car was hers, making the situation a bit more concerning.
00:57She noted that at the time, they were all coming from Mubitown in Port of Spain.
01:05However, she noted that the children were not in the best state of mind following the
01:10incident.
01:27She said that the situation was made more traumatic for the group as they were simply
01:39going about their day when it happened.
01:49Sandy Ford said she was appreciative of the response of the police.
01:53However, she hoped that the matter will be resolved soon as she noted that the vehicle
01:57was the only one she owned and she needed it by January to help continue taking care
02:02of her home.
02:04DCP Benjamin said that he felt compelled to visit Sandy Ford.
02:23He gave an assurance that once the investigation is completed, the TTPS will treat Sandy Ford
02:44in a fair manner, however, this process had to be completed first.
02:49DCP Benjamin also said that the TTPS will be encouraging its officers to use non-lethal
02:55weapons during operations.
