Come out in your numbers and send a strong message to the government. It's the call of the trade union movement to all workers, ahead of what is projected to be a mass protest outside the Prime Minister's office this Saturday 7th December. Rynessa Cutting has more.

00:00When the people cry out, the people cry out for justice, they make mockery.
00:05And you know what he says? He says,
00:07ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
00:09He goes, yeah, you remember that?
00:11Yeah? Yeah, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
00:13Well, friggin' ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, 147.
00:19Tensions are mounting ahead of the planned protest outside Whitehall on Saturday,
00:24where workers are being urged to come out in their numbers
00:27to express their dissatisfaction with the government,
00:30particularly in light of Cabinet's recent decision
00:34to accept the recommendations of the Salaries Review Commission,
00:38which will see the Prime Minister's compensation increase by roughly 47%.
00:44They have taken us down this road, in the mess that we are in right now.
00:49They recognise that they can't fix it,
00:51and they are about to fill their pockets before they go.
00:56And so he wants to federalise this to ensure
00:59that his pension is the highest pension anyone,
01:04any government or any prime minister has ever received
01:08from now into perpetuity.
01:10And so that is why he could tell you in your face
01:15that he don't care if it's fair, he cares about himself.
01:18Cabinet's acceptance of the pay increases comes,
01:22even as many workers are still working on dated salaries,
01:25some as far back as 2010,
01:27and as at least two trade unions have refused
01:30to accept the 4% wage increase offer.
01:33We have done the exercise.
01:36And 4% over a six-year period, in some instances,
01:43results in the workers' wages being reduced
01:51between 28 to 32 percentage points.
01:56We are demanding that all other members
02:00who would have received the 4%,
02:02we are demanding that this government revoke that 4%
02:06and enter into meaningful discussion with the labour movement.
02:11Meantime, with Auditor General Jayawanti Ramdas raising red flags
02:16over the accounting of $850 million at PTSC
02:20and a $2.6 billion discrepancy in the revenue statements,
02:24the union leaders are echoing calls for an investigation.
02:28We are saying that they thief the money,
02:30but we are sure that they didn't thief the money.
02:32We want to know where that money gone.
02:34We demand an investigation.
02:36$2.5 billion plus $850 million,
02:46and all the other monies that they have missing,
02:49could very well ensure that all of these workers,
02:54the postal workers, the TIF workers, the PTSC workers,
02:59the MTS workers, the daily paid workers,
03:03the port workers, the workers across the country,
03:08the security services across the country,
03:11could well ensure that everybody gets a decent wage adjustment.
