00:00President of the Amalgamated Workers' Union, Michael Prentiss, is maintaining he has done all that he can through the union to treat with the concerns of the Port of Spain City Corporation workers.
00:13Some people in the Port of Spain Corporation don't seem to understand and don't appreciate the efforts that are made by the workers of the corporation.
00:23As a result, they look at garbage and garbage. People have removed garbage off the street as nothing.
00:30They look down on the workers. In this regard, we despise them for doing that because it is wrong.
00:37The people at the top don't care about the people at the bottom.
00:41This is the reality of why parts and funding is not provided properly to carry out the mandate of the corporation.
00:50Workers have begun mobilizing to express their disappointment with the union,
00:55with several of them signing a petition to pressure the president to call elections.
01:01The executive elections were last held in 2016.
01:05However, Prentiss says if the members are tired of him, they won't have to wait too much longer as he does not intend to contest any post.
01:13I think people wasting the time in that regard because elections will be held.
01:20Certainly, yours truly will not be going back there.
01:24I had enough of that. I gave enough years to the organization. I gave it no more.
01:29So, if it's me that would like to go, I'm 98% out.
01:37I am only making up time until all the audit is done.
01:40It's all the union.
01:41And who wants to contest and run and take the building and whatever, they're free to do that.
01:47So, when are you all looking at having that election?
01:50Well, we will dissolve. We will dissolve.
01:52First thing next year, please go, because we have to finish the audit.
01:56You cannot do the audit.
01:57That is not by we choosing not to.
02:00It is because we could only do the audit when the auditors are appointed.
02:04And no auditor was appointed before 2020 by most unions.
