Leeds City Council to spend £1.9m introducing parking charges

00:10The investment is needed to allow for charges at Goldenacre, Roundhay and Middleton parks,

00:15as well as Otley Shevan and Temple Newsome. The cash will be spent on new bay markings,

00:20cycle stands, signage and to make the sites more welcoming, accessible, safer and easier to

00:25navigate in parking. The scheme would provide easier access for blue badge holders who won't

00:30be charged and electric vehicle charging infrastructure will be considered and

00:34implemented where viable. The new ticket machines will be solar powered and the

00:39parking charges are being introduced to help the Council plug a multi-million pound budget gap.

00:44More than 14,000 people took part in a public consultation on the proposals and 671 lodged

00:51formal objections for the fees which will be set at £1 for up to two hours, £2.50 for a half day

00:57and £4 for all day.
