A U.S. Embassy official has told an AMCHAM T&T conference that "Trinidad and Tobago has an opportunity to position itself as a secure digital hub for the region."

However, he says there is one thing that, if not addressed, can cause this country to fall behind where cybersecurity is concerned.

00:32The time to establish this economic foundation is now.
00:36Following last year's data breaches in Trinidad and Tobago at the Attorney General's Office, TSTT,
00:42and in the private sector, there has been an increasing focus on cybersecurity.
00:47The U.S. diplomatic official did not mention those data breaches, but did identify the Twin Island Republic's potential for being a leader in data protection.
00:57Cybersecurity should not just be viewed as a defensive necessity, but also as an economic enabler.
