Is the recent US security advisory a set-up for certain actions to be taken later down the line? It's the question being posed by criminologist Daurius Figueria, who is labelling the move a likely 'psychological operation'. He's calling on the Prime Minister to account to the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Rynessa Cutting reports.

00:00What we would like to know as a nation is what is the nature of the threat to the U.S. Embassy
00:07and how does that impact us as a nation and our public security.
00:13It's been two days since the United States Embassy in Porto, Spain issued a heightened state of alert advisory.
00:20But while the Prime Minister's redirected requests for information to the issuing country,
00:25calls a mounting for to account to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:55It's stating the reason in public, which then is feeding all sorts of rumours.
01:05Figuera believes that answers may not be forthcoming, as the advisory may be part of a strategy,
01:12the fullness of which will be made manifest in due course.
01:15In the game, you call it a psych-up or it's a psychological operation
01:21where you are setting up the groundwork for some intention you have to make real.
01:35So I don't know if you want to say no, that Trinidad and Tobago is under threat from an external force
01:42that is so potent that you have to make a public declaration to people
01:48not to visit the embassy and things, etc.
01:52Which will then justify a defensive movement on your part.
01:59And if that defensive movement is in fact a military presence in Trinidad and Tobago.
02:05Over the last two months, the United States has been ramping up its military presence in the Caribbean
02:11and strikes against alleged narco-traffickers have taken over 30 lives.
02:18President Donald Trump has also authorised the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela,
02:25boosting regime change arguments.
02:27For the length of time the Americans have been out there in the South Caribbean,
02:33the time has now come where you either move on with what you have come to do
02:38or you simply pack up and leave.
02:41You can't stay there forever.
02:43Trinidad and Tobago remains the only Caribbean nation openly supporting the United States' presence
02:49and actions in the region.
