00:00An official from the Immigration Division tells TV6 News there's been no
00:05notable change in the number of persons being deported to TNT from any
00:09jurisdiction with no more than 30 persons being deported for the month of
00:14January. Information suggests that there are roughly 300,000 TNT nationals in the
00:20tri-state area of which a significant portion may have overstayed their
00:24welcome. The information comes as a document purporting to originate from US
00:29Immigration and Customs Enforcement indicates that 1,197 TNT nationals have
00:37been identified for deportation but local authorities say they have had no
00:42such official communication from the United States. In a statement today
00:46Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Amy Brown says his office has not been able to
00:51verify the various unofficial listings and similar documents that are in recent
00:56circulation. However he says Trinidad and Tobago continues to fully cooperate
01:01with the United States of America on issues related to migration and this
01:06includes our ongoing cooperation in the receipt and management of deportations
01:11of all nationals from the United States. U.S. President Donald Trump
01:16today signed the Lake and Riley Act into law giving federal authorities broader
01:21powers to deport immigrants who have been accused of committing crimes.
