00:00Three men were shot in Scarborough, Tobago this past weekend.
00:04One succumbed to his injuries, pushing the murder toll to 18, while the other two remain
00:08warded at Scarborough General Hospital.
00:11Over the past months, the escalating gun crimes on the island have raised concerns for many.
00:17On the TV6 Morning Edition, Senior Superintendent of Police for the Tobago Division, Rodel Cook,
00:23told us that what is happening right now on the island in terms of gun violence is gang-related.
00:29What we recognize is that these activities are mostly gang-related, and we realize that
00:39there is a fight between rival gangs.
00:42Whilst we are out there trying to pass our main objectives, we are geared towards dismantling
00:51those gangs.
00:52Senior Superintendent Cook spoke briefly about the TTPS Zero Tolerance campaign and the work
00:58police officers in Tobago, along with licensing officers, have been doing.
01:03We have seen, even with the collaboration with the licensing officers, we recognize
01:08that there was a public outcry.
01:10He noted that criminals are becoming more and more brazen, and said that based on information
01:15the police have, there are alliances between gangs in Trinidad and individuals in Tobago.
01:21We know that, based on the intelligence gathered, we have homegrown persons as well, who formed
01:29that alliance with the persons from Trinidad.
01:32And the thing about it, they are networking the same way.
01:37They have that network in which they move easily.
01:42We have intelligence, but which I cannot reveal, about some of the activities, and which, you
01:48know, very soon, we will, we will, and I say it again, we will put all of our efforts towards
01:56dismantling these activities.
01:58He appealed to members of the public to exercise some patience, because soon they will see
02:04a decrease in criminal activities on the island.
