Tuesday marked the official launch in Crown Point of Tobago's first and only Carnival Production House. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.
Transcript
00:00This carnival production house is the first of its kind to operate at this capacity in the country, not on the island, in the country of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:09One of the more exciting parts of this initiative is the teach while reproduce aspect, which intends to provide much needed human resources in carnival production while also creating and developing a brand new industry in Tobago, which is for Tobago, by Tobago.
00:30Approximately 50 students have the opportunity to learn sewing, wire bending, feathering and jamming, all already paid for by B-Mobile.
00:41Clients have real time access to check up on their costumes because it's all under one roof.
00:48Anya has a carnival section in the band Fog Angels for Tobago's 2024 October Carnival.
00:56We are able to teach individuals in the areas of carnival production in any area that they may pique their interest.
01:03There are no credentials. You don't have to pass any tests. All you need to do is be interested in being a part of the process.
01:09The doors are open. Under this one roof, we will be housing our seamstresses, wire benders, jam artists and featherwork producers for the duration of the Tobago carnival season for the full production of bodywear and featherwork.
01:24In essence, your entire carnival costume is going to be produced under this roof.
01:28After spending most of her life in Trinidad's carnival industry, she said she had no doubt that coming back home to Tobago to assist in the development of the carnival product was something she wanted to do.
01:43I love this island and I will do anything that I can to assist in the development and contribute positively to any project that will result in opportunities and growth for my fellow Tobagonians.
