00:00I don't know if it's a technical issue, but it is cancelled.
00:03We questioned Mr. Carvalho about monies owed to maxi-taxi drivers in Tobago attached to
00:09the cruise liners.
00:10He said those were paid in full, including outstanding COVID-19 monies.
00:16My own concern with Tobago is that we don't get the kind of information that we need from
00:27the transport providers.
00:29For instance, we will send them our requirement for so many people going on tours, but we
00:36don't get a response from them saying that we have X number of vehicles available if
00:44the vehicle is going to come.
00:46So that is something that we need to work on.
00:48TV6 News contacted the president of One Arm of the Maxi-Taxi Association in Tobago, Cloyd
00:54Williams, who spoke to the relationship with Mr. Carvalho and the need for increased transportation
01:01for Tobago.
01:03Any outstanding payments from Mr. Carvalho?
01:05No, there's no outstanding.
01:06He paid up every cent, even the COVID-19 money, the pre-COVID that he was owing, he paid.
01:15We start the season and he's doing well.
01:17We start paying.
01:18I think we have an improved relationship with him, which we are happy about.
01:23We still have the problem of shortage of Maxis and we apply and approach the transport
01:30commission several times, which there was a promise of some sweet Maxis.
01:35We are hoping that they will really address that problem because long transport is very
01:42indispensable and we cannot be promoting tourism all over the world.
01:46And then when you come to the destination, there is a shortage of transport.
01:51This year, Tobago will have less cruise ship calls than last year.
01:56At last Thursday's Tobago Security Council Stakeholders' Meeting, Tourism Secretary Tasha
02:02Pores indicated there has been some decline in the tourism industry since the SOE was
02:09announced.
