00:00Thanks for joining me for this national weather update.

00:02For many, it's a fine Friday, but there

00:05is more wet and windy weather to come this weekend.

00:07There was certainly plenty of rain around.

00:09Overnight, did you get woken up by this weather front

00:12as it crossed through England and Wales?

00:14And quite heavy rain on that.

00:15Still a big swirl, some wet and windy weather

00:17at the moment across northern Scotland.

00:19And behind me, another swirl, another area of low pressure

00:22that'll bring wet weather this weekend.

00:24But for most, we're between weather systems today.

00:28There are some showers over Wales moving

00:30into northwest England.

00:31And later on, showers will return

00:33to Wales and southwest England.

00:35Still showery across the Northern Isles

00:36and still very windy here.

00:39But elsewhere, it's mostly dry and bright,

00:42and the winds are easing down, at least for a time.

00:44And it is still pretty mild.

00:46Temperature's not as high as yesterday, but still

00:48double digits quite widely, 11 or 12 degrees across the south.

00:53In the southwest, though, as the showers return,

00:55the winds will start to strengthen.

00:56And this line of rain will join in as well.

01:00So generally, just turning wet in many western areas

01:02through this evening, some heavy bursts

01:04of rain for Northern Ireland.

01:05And then through the night for Wales and southwest England,

01:08some very heavy rain possible, particularly over the hills

01:10here.

01:11So we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place,

01:14a potential for that heavy rain to cause some problems,

01:16especially by Saturday morning.

01:19The east may well stay dry, the east of England, that is.

01:22And by dawn, the rain should be clearing away

01:24from Northern Ireland.

01:25Cooler air will return as that wet weather clears.

01:28But for most, temperatures to start the weekend

01:32are going to be 10 or 11 degrees Celsius.

01:34So a very mild, but for many, a pretty soggy start to Saturday.

01:38Still some heavy bursts of rain for Wales and southwest

01:41England, especially.

01:42The rain will take a couple of hours

01:43before it gets to East Anglia and the far southeast.

01:47Drier conditions follow in the west for a time.

01:49We may well see some sunny spells.

01:51But then the showers really get going

01:53for Wales, southwest England, and southern parts

01:56of Scotland.

01:57There'll be some brighter spells, but generally,

01:59showers never too far away by Saturday afternoon.

02:02Blown in on a fairly stiff wind.

02:04That doesn't mean the showers will tend to zip through.

02:07And as I say, there will be some brighter spells in between.

02:10Look at the temperatures for Saturday afternoon.

02:12Actually, lower than they will be to start Saturday.

02:16But still, these values of 7 to 10 degrees,

02:18generally around or a touch above average

02:20for the time of year.

02:21So it's not going to feel cold, but temperatures

02:23will be dropping as we go through the day.

02:25And obviously, it's not going to feel very pleasant

02:27if you're getting caught out in these showers

02:28and gusty winds, which will continue

02:30through Saturday evening.

02:32Get nowhere immune from a downpour if you're heading out.

02:35You can see the swirl here.

02:38That is that low pressure system we saw earlier on the satellites.

02:41And it will continue to dominate our weather

02:43as we go through Sunday.

02:45This low just very slowly creeping

02:47towards northern Scotland.

02:48As it does, the isobars really squeezing together here.

02:50So very blustery on Saturday night and Sunday

02:53in the far north.

02:55Plenty of isobars elsewhere, though.

02:56So it's going to be a gusty, blustery Sunday

02:59with some sunny intervals and plenty of showers.

03:03And feeling a little cooler, although, again, temperatures

03:06will just be close to average.

03:07So it won't be particularly cold at all.

03:10The weather remains pretty mixed as we go into next week

03:12with further spells of wet and windy conditions to come.
