Thanks for joining me for this national weather update.
00:02
For many, it's a fine Friday, but there
00:05
is more wet and windy weather to come this weekend.
00:07
There was certainly plenty of rain around.
00:09
Overnight, did you get woken up by this weather front
00:12
as it crossed through England and Wales?
00:14
And quite heavy rain on that.
00:15
Still a big swirl, some wet and windy weather
00:17
at the moment across northern Scotland.
00:19
And behind me, another swirl, another area of low pressure
00:22
that'll bring wet weather this weekend.
00:24
But for most, we're between weather systems today.
00:28
There are some showers over Wales moving
00:30
into northwest England.
00:31
And later on, showers will return
00:33
to Wales and southwest England.
00:35
Still showery across the Northern Isles
00:36
and still very windy here.
00:39
But elsewhere, it's mostly dry and bright,
00:42
and the winds are easing down, at least for a time.
00:44
And it is still pretty mild.
00:46
Temperature's not as high as yesterday, but still
00:48
double digits quite widely, 11 or 12 degrees across the south.
00:53
In the southwest, though, as the showers return,
00:55
the winds will start to strengthen.
00:56
And this line of rain will join in as well.
01:00
So generally, just turning wet in many western areas
01:02
through this evening, some heavy bursts
01:04
of rain for Northern Ireland.
01:05
And then through the night for Wales and southwest England,
01:08
some very heavy rain possible, particularly over the hills
01:10
here.
01:11
So we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place,
01:14
a potential for that heavy rain to cause some problems,
01:16
especially by Saturday morning.
01:19
The east may well stay dry, the east of England, that is.
01:22
And by dawn, the rain should be clearing away
01:24
from Northern Ireland.
01:25
Cooler air will return as that wet weather clears.
01:28
But for most, temperatures to start the weekend
01:32
are going to be 10 or 11 degrees Celsius.
01:34
So a very mild, but for many, a pretty soggy start to Saturday.
01:38
Still some heavy bursts of rain for Wales and southwest
01:41
England, especially.
01:42
The rain will take a couple of hours
01:43
before it gets to East Anglia and the far southeast.
01:47
Drier conditions follow in the west for a time.
01:49
We may well see some sunny spells.
01:51
But then the showers really get going
01:53
for Wales, southwest England, and southern parts
01:56
of Scotland.
01:57
There'll be some brighter spells, but generally,
01:59
showers never too far away by Saturday afternoon.
02:02
Blown in on a fairly stiff wind.
02:04
That doesn't mean the showers will tend to zip through.
02:07
And as I say, there will be some brighter spells in between.
02:10
Look at the temperatures for Saturday afternoon.
02:12
Actually, lower than they will be to start Saturday.
02:16
But still, these values of 7 to 10 degrees,
02:18
generally around or a touch above average
02:20
for the time of year.
02:21
So it's not going to feel cold, but temperatures
02:23
will be dropping as we go through the day.
02:25
And obviously, it's not going to feel very pleasant
02:27
if you're getting caught out in these showers
02:28
and gusty winds, which will continue
02:30
through Saturday evening.
02:32
Get nowhere immune from a downpour if you're heading out.
02:35
You can see the swirl here.
02:38
That is that low pressure system we saw earlier on the satellites.
02:41
And it will continue to dominate our weather
02:43
as we go through Sunday.
02:45
This low just very slowly creeping
02:47
towards northern Scotland.
02:48
As it does, the isobars really squeezing together here.
02:50
So very blustery on Saturday night and Sunday
02:53
in the far north.
02:55
Plenty of isobars elsewhere, though.
02:56
So it's going to be a gusty, blustery Sunday
02:59
with some sunny intervals and plenty of showers.
03:03
And feeling a little cooler, although, again, temperatures
03:06
will just be close to average.
03:07
So it won't be particularly cold at all.
03:10
The weather remains pretty mixed as we go into next week
03:12
with further spells of wet and windy conditions to come.
03:15
So stay up to date with the forecast.
03:17
Best way to do that is to be following us
