00:03This long weekend, a bank holiday for many, but not in Scotland,
00:08promises more dry weather and does promise quite a bit of cloud.
00:12We've seen fairly cloudy skies again through Friday.
00:15Some spots had a fair bit of sunshine, but generally the skies were quite grey.
00:18We'll keep a fair bit of cloud through the night.
00:20A little bit of drizzle here and there, but the vast majority will stay dry.
00:24That cloud will keep the temperatures up into double digits generally,
00:27but notice colder conditions across the northeast of Scotland.
00:31Here, if skies do clear for any length of time, those temperatures will drop well down into single figures.
00:37So a bit of a fresh start to the weekend here.
00:39Elsewhere, as I said, generally starting at about 10 to 13 Celsius.
00:43Should start off again with some sunshine across the southwest of England.
00:47Elsewhere, though, again, quite a bit of cloud, but that cloud should be breaking up a little bit more,
00:52still providing the odd little bit of drizzle here and there.
00:54I think the most likely area to see a bit of showery rain is Northern Ireland through the afternoon.
01:00But I think the vast majority will stay dry.
01:02If you start sunny, well, that cloud will fill in a little bit, as we say.
01:06But if you start cloudy, I'm hopeful the cloud will break up a little bit.
01:09It's dry and bright for the majority on Saturday.
01:12The winds are pretty light.
01:14Temperature-wise, well, it depends on how much brightness you get.
01:17With a bit of sunshine, we could easily see those numbers in the south getting up to 22, 23 degrees.
01:22But again, like it has been for much of this week, these eastern counties of England, parts of eastern Scotland,
01:27on the cool side with temperatures only in the mid to high teens.
01:32And that's reflected on the temperature map when compared to the average for August.
01:38Many places pretty close to the average.
01:39But notice it will be cooler across the eastern side.
01:43That will change, though, as we go through the weekend.
01:45Increasing chance of one or two more showers coming into Northern Ireland during Saturday evening.
01:49I say they will be light and they will be hit and miss, so it's far from a wet evening.
01:54The odd shower then creeping into the west coast of Scotland.
01:57But generally, it will stay dry with some decent clear spells, again, allowing those temperatures to fall away.
02:03Sunday's a similar story, but I'm a bit more optimistic.
02:07A few more breaks in the cloud, a bit more sunshine coming through.
02:10Again, the vast majority dry.
02:12Main exception Sunday, perhaps the western side of Scotland,
02:14where a little bit of light rain and drizzle is possible at times.
02:18The old spot can't be ruled out elsewhere.
02:20But, again, many places dry.
02:23Some cloud will develop through the day.
02:24So it's a case of some sunshine, some cloud.
02:27And, of course, the sun makes all the difference.
02:29But temperatures are generally ticking up a little bit.
02:32So feeling pretty pleasant by the afternoon, quite widely over 20 Celsius.
02:37And, of course, maybe the Midlands, parts of East Wales, we could get to 24, 25 degrees.
02:42Where it stays cloudy, more likely to be in the low 20s.
02:46As we go through Sunday night and into Monday, an area of high pressure becomes even more dominant.
02:51So I'm even more hopeful the cloud will break up a little bit more.
02:54Again, coolish start to Monday.
02:56But temperatures will rise pretty smartly on Monday if we don't see much cloud
03:00and we see more in the way of sunshine.
03:02I'm expecting quite a few of us to have a sunny bank holiday Monday.
03:06Notice the breeze picking up out west and there is some cloud pushing in.
03:10That is from what will, by this stage, be ex-Hurricane Erin, staying well out across the Atlantic.
03:17But it is starting to pick the breeze up, which could generate some large waves
03:20around western coasts on Monday and particularly Tuesday.
03:23For most, though, Monday is looking fine.
03:26Late summer's day and warming up, 27, maybe even 28 degrees Celsius.
03:32And temperatures generally ticking up as we go through the weekend.
03:35I showed you that map earlier.
03:36Temperatures close to average or below average on Saturday.
03:39By Sunday, more places getting above average.
03:43And by Monday, well, many places, particularly over northwest England, parts of the Midlands,
03:47East Wales, quite a bit above average.
03:49So it is going to warm up through this long weekend.
03:52Most of us will stay dry and fine.
