23 August - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Welcome to the weekend. Now, I know it's not a bank holiday in Scotland, but for many it is.
00:06But whether you've got a two-day weekend or a three-day weekend, you're unlikely to see much rainfall.
00:11It is also going to steadily get a bit warmer through the weekend. It's a coolish start.
00:17Certainly of course, eastern areas, temperatures this afternoon likely to be below the August average.
00:22Elsewhere, temperatures this afternoon will be close to the average.
00:25But by the time we get to Sunday, notice a bit more orange on the chart.
00:30Temperatures will be rising through the weekend.
00:32And by Monday, if you're off on Monday, then certainly across parts of northwest England and the Midlands,
00:37it'll feel pretty warm, along with parts of northern Scotland too.
00:41Now, not feeling that warm out there this morning, and it is quite grey for many still.
00:46That cloud in place is thick enough for the old little bit of drizzly rain too.
00:50And increasingly through the day, the threat of some light showers coming into parts of Northern Ireland.
00:55But most places will be dry.
00:57If you've got the sunshine to start with, make the most of it,
00:59because the cloud will bubble up a little bit through the day.
01:02But generally, dry and bright kind of sums up this afternoon.
01:06The winds are pretty light as well, so if you get some bright or sunny spells,
01:10it'll feel pleasant with those average temperatures in the south, 22, maybe 23 degrees.
01:16But notice it is cooler across the eastern side, particularly where it stays cloudy, 16, 17 at best for some here.
01:22Now, as we go through the night, not a great deal of change.
01:25If heading out this evening, it should by and large be dry.
01:28It's the threat of a few more light showers dribbling into Northern Ireland,
01:32or perhaps into western Scotland also.
01:34But elsewhere, say, most places will be dry.
01:37Temperatures, again, just like last night, will really depend on how many breaks we see in the cloud.
01:42Where we do see clear spells, parts of northeast Scotland could easily dip well down into single figures again.
01:48But for most, with a fair bit of cloud around, most towns and cities will start Sunday in double digits.
01:54Some start in the teens.
01:55Sunday, a similar day.
01:57Maybe the odd light shower here and there, most likely perhaps in western Scotland.
02:02But even here, I think few and far between.
02:04A little bit of drizzle, some thicker cloud here, maybe for Northern Ireland.
02:07But I'm hopeful Northern Ireland will brighten up a little bit through the day.
02:10And again, for England and Wales, that mixture of sunshine and some cloudy spells.
02:15But overall, dry and bright, and temperatures just started to tick up.
02:18With a bit more sunshine on Sunday, we'll see those temperatures more widely over 20 Celsius,
02:22and perhaps even into the mid-20s over parts of the Midlands and East Wales in particular.
02:28As we go into Monday, as I said, a bank holiday for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
02:32Well, I'm even more optimistic that the cloud will be melting away by then.
02:36We'll see more sunshine.
02:38Still, some patches of cloud here and then.
02:40Notice the breeze picking up out west as well.
02:42That is tied into a weather system out in the Atlantic.
02:45That was a hurricane, changing over the weekend just to an area of low pressure.
02:50But it will start to pick up the winds a bit in the west, which could generate some large waves.
02:55The rain from that system at the moment staying off the west coast of the Republic of Ireland.
03:00So, for most, it's looking like a pretty good day on Monday, with some lengthy spells of sunshine and those temperatures ticking up,
03:06certainly over the Midlands, parts of Northern England and East Wales.
03:09A pretty warm day, 25 to maybe as high as 28 degrees Celsius.
03:13So, it's getting warmer through the course of the weekend.
03:16May turn a bit wetter as we go through next week, but there's still some uncertainty around that,
03:21due to what happens with ex-hurricane Errant.
