Following the budget presentation ,TV6 sought the views of COSTAATT students and staff on the fiscal measures for the next year.

00:00Digital transformation and a cashless society along with the development of a
00:05center of excellence were highlighted in the minister's proposals for creating a
00:09more technologically advanced society. Costat student Hakeem shares his
00:13thoughts on these. Definitely that is a big movement forward in terms of
00:19digital transformation. I do believe that it's a step forward because when you
00:25look at the small micro medium enterprises they will benefit from
00:30having less cash transactions in the area of crime, national security.
00:36Definitely that is something that you'd want to embrace whether even if it's the
00:42double vendors, if it's the taxi drivers. Entrepreneur and barber Joshua Phillip
00:48adds on how this affects his business. I think one of the advantages is that I
00:53will no longer be working with cash so when it comes to like robbery and things I
00:58think we'll be safe in that aspect but I'm getting into it maybe then I'll see
01:04the disadvantages it probably will have so I guess I gotta go through the motion
01:10to see how things works. And speaking on whether the 2023 budget has had a
01:14visible impact on citizens, Stewart says that there's more to be done. Right now
01:20unemployment is said to be at five point something percent but if you look
01:24at the definition of unemployment according to ILO, ILO says an individual
01:32is considered to be employed if it is they have been working for at least one
01:39hour in a stipulated period and usually that period is a week. So if it is I work
01:44for one hour at least one hour in this week I am employed one hour. There are
01:52many people out here who they are underemployed so we have a low
01:59unemployment rate but we have a high underemployment rate and that is why
02:04right now the focus should be on these individuals to have micro small
02:10businesses. She insists that better implementation of policies would better
