00:06the Prime Minister says national security agencies are fully mobilized for the peak of Carnival 2026.
00:12In a statement ahead of the long weekend, she described Carnival as a central part of Trinidad and Tobago's national
00:18identity
00:19and acknowledged the work of the National Carnival Commission and the Ministry of Culture and Community Development in coordinating this
00:27year's activities.
00:27She also pointed to initiatives such as Flava Village, which expanded opportunities for small businesses, artisans and food vendors during
00:37the season.
00:38However, the emphasis now shifts to security.
00:41The Prime Minister, who also chairs the National Security Council, says the TTPS has activated Operation Secure the Vibes,
00:49a nationwide policing plan for Carnival events.
00:51Measures include high-visibility patrols, mandatory registration of large bands and steel orchestras,
00:59bands on weapons, fireworks and glass bottles, enforcement of noise regulations,
01:05and action against lewd behavior and impersonation of police officers.
01:09Authorities say particular attention will be given to child safety, responsible alcohol consumption,
01:16licensed transport for masqueraders and sober driving, including safe breath testing.
01:22Security personnel will be deployed at major events, parade routes, beaches, rivers and community celebrations across the country.
01:30State agencies responsible for recreational sites have also increased lifeguard and safety staffing in anticipation of large crowds.
01:38The Prime Minister is urging the public to comply with security directives,
01:43noting that public safety remains a shared responsibility during the Carnival season.
