00:00Chaguanas market vendors tell TV6, although the market was closed for three days last
00:06week for repairs, they are still under threat of being flooded out during heavy rains.
00:12The market vendors tried to sell all their perishable goods, leave what they could leave
00:17and the market did close for the three days that no vendor could sell. They had produce
00:25that they could have sold but they couldn't sell it. So they come like they set back everybody
00:30from making a dollar and then when they do come back to the market, the problem is not
00:35fixed.
00:36When the rain falls, explain to me exactly what is happening?
00:39Water, like if you're outside. People's goods getting wet, she's selling kitchen
00:45towels, she's selling bowls, things that could get damaged. She's selling garlic
00:49so it will get spoiled. Other people will sell other things, the water will run out.
00:53People could fall, they could slide. Pregnant people walking, children.
00:57The vendors say they brought the matter to the attention of the market's management
01:01on numerous occasions.
01:04Them don't come down and look for nobody. Only when you have to go upstairs, pay market
01:07fee, that is it. No market clerk don't walk downstairs in the market to see what's
01:11going on either. Like how a market clerk is supposed to walk and check out the place.
01:18They're also complaining about an intermittent water supply issue at the market.
01:23Toilet in a mess right now. We have to go, sometimes it's been more than one day,
01:29we have to go either by the casino or in the back by the bar.
01:34To use washroom?
01:35Yeah.
01:36But Mayor of Chukwuna's Faheek Mohamed says the cooperation has carried out and is still
01:41in the process of carrying out repairs and upgrades to the market, which should be finalised
01:46in the coming week.
01:48Work is still ongoing in the market. We noticed there's a leak from one of the gutter in.
01:55And on Monday, that will be rectified. And we're also looking to rectify all other leaks
02:02that is happening within the roofing system there.
02:06The entire toilet facilities was redone, fully refurbished, new tyres, new fixtures and fittings.
02:12I don't know if you get a chance to see it, but it's straight out of the art.
02:15It looks really good. So I believe all those plumbing issues were addressed, as well as
02:24meat chillers was fully refurbished as well too. We actually installed some new chillers
02:29as well. And that's another issue that was sorted out. There was no AC in the fish and
02:37meat section and that as well was sorted out.
02:39The mayor is sending the following message to the vendors.
02:42Now there's $1.4 million owing by these vendors. So I hope the ones that are complaining will
02:50start to pay so we can keep what we did. They love to make complaints, but I don't think
02:57they love to pay.
02:58Renessa Cutting, TV6 News.
