00:00I just want it to be fair because poor people, single mothers and single fathers waiting
00:07for this money and it's December last year, right now school closed, books to buy, school
00:13uniform to buy, food upon the table, people depending on this money and I find for a court
00:18system they should do better than that.
00:20Mariam Short is struggling to make ends meet for children and it's not because their fathers
00:25aren't giving money towards their upkeep.
00:28I called the court to find out if the money was paid, they said yes, he paid it in three
00:34grabs of money.
00:35Alright, how long would it take to get the money, they said it would take within a month
00:40to six weeks, a week and a month to six weeks, nothing, two months, nothing and that became
00:46an issue over and over in this 2024.
00:49That money was paid December 29th, 2023.
00:54When I call up to last week to find out what is going on, I can't get an answer, I can't
00:59get a phone number, I can't get a court date, I can't get nothing, just wait, we know about
01:04the issue and wait.
01:06In fact, Ms. Short says two payments which were made back in 2022 are also outstanding
01:12with no word as to what became of the money.
01:15It's the third time and I take it once, I take it twice, 1500 the first time and it
01:21was $900.
01:22Sometimes it's a couple of thousands and I just can't take no again, it's too much.
01:28TV6 News understands that the issue stems from the online court pay portal, as payments
01:34made through the NLCB booths are received in a matter of days.
01:38Meantime another mother is crying out for assistance, having reached her wit's end.
01:44She too has multiple payments inside, which she is yet to receive.
01:49I don't mean to cry with you, it's just because I am begging for my money and court
01:55pay is not taking me on.
01:57I've still not paid any bills.
02:00And that money that they owe me from 2023 will come in so handy right about now, that
02:09my son finished school Thursday and I can even carry him, he's a hard to care for,
02:16he wants to go down to see the new movie Inside Out 2.
02:20I can't, I sent a message to his dad telling him that could you please use the other form
02:28of payment, he was like no.
02:31He said it's not safe.
02:33TV6 News reached out to the judiciary for a response.
02:37The judiciary says in May of 2024, it did advise the public that for the period October
02:432023 to January 2024, a backlog of payments exists.
02:49It says it is actively working with the software developer WePay and other service providers
02:55to ensure that these funds are paid out.
02:58Court pay customers with concerns are asked to contact 866-CPAY or send an email to
03:06courtpayhelpdesk at ttlawcourts.org.
03:09Both women highlighted in this story have been contacted by the judiciary and are receiving
03:16assistance.
