One Enterprise man is making a plea on behalf of his family and the residents of Williams street, who he says grapple with flooding every time it rains. He says the issue is an inadequate box drain, and he's pleading with the authorities to rectify the problem. Rynessa Cutting has more.

00:00This is the situation on William Street in Enterprise after several minutes of heavy sustained rainfall.
00:10For Scott Lachan, the situation is unbearable, as his property is well below street level,
00:16resulting in extensive flooding throughout his home every rainy season.
00:21It's all at this level here, cover in here.
00:25Right through, we had to be cleaning, we had to pick up everything, we had to be cleaning,
00:29and we had to do everything.
00:31Lachan says the problem has persisted for decades.
00:35However, he feels like the recent construction of a box drain has only worsened the problem,
00:41as the drain cannot contain the high volume of water.
00:45Now, this problem has been going on since the past 30 years or more.
00:52Now, they did come and do something.
00:54They put a concrete box drain here.
00:56It was a dirt drain before.
01:00Then they came and did a concrete box drain.
01:03And the contractor was paid off money.
01:07So, he stopped the box drain and ended up going in a different direction.
01:14We ended up having to burst the box drain on this side here.
01:17He laments that appeals to the local authorities have not yielded the desired results.
01:34So, he is escalating his request.
01:37I would like to speak to my loving auntie, Kamla.
01:44Please, I said to you here, Big Mountain girl, we are under pressure.
01:49I said to you.
01:50Here is the thing.
01:52Girl, even if you assess where the material, we could do the work.
01:57We are young and we are able-bodied.
01:59We could do the work.
02:00Meantime, Councillor for Enterprise South, Londonville North, Branda John, is urging all constituents to dispose of their garbage properly to help in alleviating the flooding.
02:11So, what we are doing now, we are putting out little by little every Thursday for the open tray to take up some of the stuff to dispose of.
02:21So, the water right now, this is roadway.
02:24This is not a drain.
02:25This is the roadway.
02:26The water comes over and flooding the area.
02:29So, I am asking everybody to come on board so at least we can clean the water course and have the water flowing free.
