00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World. Today I'm out in the streets of Manchester asking people about crime.
00:05Now, whenever a new government comes in, there's always a lot of focus on being tough on crime, usually, because that's what wins votes.
00:10But what we want to know today is people's actual opinion on what they think the government could do to prevent crime rates from rising any further.
00:17Maybe just as women, we're always kind of hardwired into knowing that we're unsafe, and so it just kind of crosses our mind anyway.
00:24Even if you're not walking home, if you're in an Uber, you're kind of just always hardwired with survival instincts.
00:31I feel like it's more reported, for sure, but I've not really noticed a difference myself. More like an increase in fear-mongering, if that makes sense.
00:40It's the wealth disparity and the lack of education, and it starts pretty much in secondary school, not before.
00:45I think just more effort in the community itself, like youth groups and stuff, because a lot of the people committing crimes, they do start quite young in it.
00:53So if there's more effort into helping them out when they're younger, so they'll end up in that sort of line of work.
