00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, my name's Theo Hewson-Vets and today I'm out in Manchester asking people about sports and crime.
00:06And that's because some ministers have suggested that instead of giving people prison time, in order to reduce prison capacities,
00:12we can instead hand out bans to sporting occasions and bars, in the hopes that this will prevent people from committing crimes.
00:18So we want to know if people think this is a good idea, whether they think it'll work, and what they could suggest as an alternative.
00:24I think it is sensible, I mean if you're the sort of person who's been that bad, you're not only banned, you could go to prison.
00:32I think it should be part of both, not just one or the other.
00:38Personally yes, because I think the prisons are overcrowded, but it's how well it's going to be policed.
00:44How they're going to keep an eye on these people, if they can't go into sports venues, bars, how well is that going to be policed?
00:50It is a good idea to understand the prison population, but they need to get on top of that.
00:54How would you do it without IDing everybody that walks in? I just don't know how you'd police that.
