The South western division of the TTPS has been given additional resources to help patrol and secure the country’s southwestern border.

It was revealed at a TTPS media briefing by central and south divisional heads on Thursday that resources have been increased and/or diverted to assist in that region, after it was confirmed recently that multiple coast guard vessels are currently down.

00:22But head of the Central South Region, Assistant Commissioner of Police Wayne Mystar says resources
00:28have been moved around and or allocated to ensure that safety and security are not compromised.
00:58Meanwhile, Acting Superintendent Gann of the Central Division on Thursday encouraged
01:15the landlords who rent rooms and homes to migrants to screen them as best as they can.
01:22These landlords on them, they are studying the money and they are not studying getting information as to who these persons are, they have no roots in Trinidad and Tobago and they have no information on them, they don't even have a copy of their I-Card or any documentation to say who this person is.
01:41He says there are more and more crimes being committed by Venezuelan migrants and landlords
01:46can assist in helping their communities by checking potential tenants' IDs with the
01:52nearest police station, as the TTPS can do background checks.
01:57Sometimes you need to contact immigration to find out what are these persons' status.
02:03We don't know what crimes they might have committed elsewhere and they come here.
02:08So we have to be more proactive and ensure that we say about our own safety.
02:15These landlords, forget just the dollar, you have to look at the safety of your neighborhood.
