While the numbers of HIV/AIDS cases in this country have generally been decreasing over the years, a few hundred new cases are recorded each year. Here's more from the HIV Policy Advocacy Training Workshop.

00:00The United Nations has set a 2025 target for member states to create an enabling
00:06environment for persons living with HIV AIDS. However, the Centers for Disease
00:11Control and Prevention shared some unfortunate news. The new partnership
00:16that we have all embarked on comes at a critical time for the global HIV
00:22response. No country is on track to achieve our 10-10-10 target set by UN
00:27needs by 2025. However, we are working steadily towards it. The 10-10-10
00:33targets state that by 2025 less than 10% of countries should have punitive legal
00:40and policy environments that deny or limit access to services for HIV
00:45positive persons. Less than 10% of those people living with HIV should
00:50experience stigma and discrimination and less than 10% of people living with HIV
00:56should experience gender inequality and violence. In this regard, stakeholders
01:01held an HIV policy advocacy training workshop today. The white paper version
01:06of the national policy on HIV and AIDS is in its final proofreading phase and
01:12will soon be submitted to cabinet for approval. The policy aims to promote a
01:18non-discriminatory environment by, among other things, keeping medical files and
01:23information confidential and ensuring that hiring and promotions are based on
01:28experience, qualifications and fitness to work rather than HIV status. Many of you
01:35may be wondering how will this policy affect your ministry organization. The
01:40answer to this question will be provided at this workshop. Over the next three
01:46days, you will be given tools to discuss health equity and how it impacts the
01:52rollout of the HIV response policy agenda that allows us as a country to
01:58improve access to prevention, treatment, care and long-term survival for people
02:05living with and affected by HIV. There are an estimated 11,000 plus people
02:11living with HIV AIDS in TNT. The minister is urging those affected to seek and
02:17remain on treatment. Undetectable is equal to untransmissible. You equals you.
02:25Advocacy is required to share the good news that undetectable is indeed equal
02:33to untransmissible. It is critical that we educate national employers so that
02:39instead of adopting a punitive position, they can change and adopt a supportive
02:45position to get employees infected with the virus to seek life-saving treatment
02:51and continue working as normal. The workshop will continue over the course
02:56of the next two days. Renassa Cutting, TV6 News.
