00:0016-year-old Salome Ranghill was remembered on Friday as a kind, respectful, brilliant
00:08and good child by those who offered tributes at her funeral service.
00:13Ranghill was the only female in a group of six people shot dead by police on August 14.
00:19The TTPS says the six were suspected bandits linked to recent home invasions and they were
00:25forced to return fire upon arrival at the Freeport home in which the group had been.
00:32Addressing mourners at her funeral, Salome's brother encouraged others to look at their
00:37children and their own homes before passing judgement on his family.
01:07Yes, you keep bad company, but don't we all? Don't we all know somebody bad who come in and check in on you?
01:16He urged parents and relatives to work on building
01:19stronger relationships with the children in their lives.
01:23Look after your children. Check on your friends, make sure your friends are good ones.
01:29We always tell our friends who are good ones and we know it are the bad ones, but we can do nothing to it.
01:35You can always say, Salome, don't talk to this one, Salome, don't talk to that one.
01:38But at the end of the day, everyone has their own mind.
01:43Ranghill's grandparents also delivered tributes.
01:47They remembered Salome as someone who was brilliant with lots of plans for her future
01:52and called on people to do more to guide the children in their families.

02:03You know that I'm in a position, I understand, because I can stand here and say, Salome was a nice child.
02:12Salome, I knew, was a nice child.
02:17Perhaps, if we feel Salome, we feel her in not understanding how brilliant she was
02:25and how great a need there was to channel that brilliance.
02:31Our children are not our friends. We need to guide them. We need to help them along. We all do.
02:39And let Salome's passing be not in vain.
02:45For if what has happened to her could help one child, one person,
02:55that's a plus.
