Steers sold to $1690, while heifers reached $1390 at the Strathalbyn cattle market on Thursday.

00:00How did you think the sale went today? In my opinion compared to the last store sale we had

00:05here six weeks ago, a lot stronger than that obviously which is in trend with what the rest

00:09of the country is doing. Particularly heavy cattle, feeder waste that sort of thing and

00:14heifers that have got condition, getting a lot of demand there. As you get back into the minor

00:19cattle it tends to drop back and I think we will see that continue until we get good weather and

00:24sunshine. And who was here buying today? Was there any more noticeable than others? Oh no,

00:29just the usual number of feedlotters were here and your store buyers. You always get,

00:33you know, the local fields farmers come once or twice a year. They start to have a bit of a look

00:37but probably held back a bit today and suggest they'll probably be here next sale if there's

00:42been a bit of rain and sunshine around. What about when it comes to the cattle that are on offer? Are

00:47they clients that are selling a little bit earlier than normal? Are you finding that that's something

00:52that they're doing as well just because of the season? We've had a lot of that yes and definitely

00:57cattle here today that normally wouldn't come till later. No feed, can't get hay, cold, can't

01:03hang on to them. And so obviously you've got your next sale coming up in September. How do you think

01:10that'll look? How do you think that'll go? I think that's very weather dependent. Everyone's waiting

01:16for some more rain. It's been a week since we've had any and a bit of wind so it's drying off.

01:22No grass growth because it's still so cold and everyone's just probably thinking about shutting

01:27up hay paddocks. I'll be shutting up more paddocks than normal so they don't get caught like they did

01:32this year by not having enough. So yeah I think if we start to get a bit more moisture a few warmer

01:39days we'll probably see some people start to get a little bit more active and yeah come the next

01:45sale, Adelaide Showtime, we get that sort of weather where we can get warm days and rain

01:50and we'll see some feed.
