Northern buyers help boost Wodonga market 'beyond expectations'

A total of 3841 cattle were yarded at the Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange where true weaner steers sold to a top of $1820 a head.

00:00The market was very solid, exceeded expectations, we had some grown steers up earlier and they

00:06all made from $3.90 to $4.20 and are all grown steers with a fair bit of weight, you know

00:12from 450 to 550 kilos. From there we went on to our true Angus weaners and that was an exceptional

00:20lineup of cattle. Predominantly those heavier calves weighing around four or early 400 kilos

00:27were making around the $4 a kilo mark and as we got lighter sort of more 350 kilos

00:35making anywhere from early $4 to $4.30 or $4.40 and then as they stepped lighter again and you

00:41got into some of those 300 kilo steer weaners making anywhere from $4.30 or $4.40 to $4.70

00:48or $4.80 a kilo so yeah everyone happy on the steer sale. Moved on to the heifers we had some

00:54grown heifers up the front with sort of you know north of 400 kilos making around $3.60 or $3.70

01:02to $3.80 or $3.90 a kilo in that range. It was interesting the heifer weaners there was a few

01:07guys that were picked out a few pens of heifers specifically to breed from and there were some

01:12heifers there that made you know equivalent to steer prices you know $4.20, $4.30, $4.40 a kilo

01:20if they were good enough to take home and breed from but yeah predominantly those heifers making

01:26you know $3.80 or $4.90 to $4.10 or $4.20 a kilo for the bulk of those heifer weaners so

01:33all in all a pretty good result here at Barnawatha day two of the weaner sales three more days to go

01:39here and yeah all in all looks pretty good predominantly the most of the cattle are going

01:44north a few staying local but most going north so good result everyone's happy.
