00:00The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia has expressed its disappointment over the death
00:06sentence handed to six former National Defence University of Malaysia cadets for the murder
00:11of Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain.
00:14In a statement, Suhakam said it stands resolutely against the use of the death penalty as it
00:19is not an effective solution to prevent crime.
00:23It said this form of punishment is irreversible and does not allow for the possibility of
00:28rehabilitation in the event of judicial error.
00:31Suhakam also said it is important to emphasize the need for rehabilitation which can transform
00:37offenders into responsible members of society.
00:40Meanwhile, Malaysians Against Death Penalty and Torture spokesman Charles Hector called
00:45for the death sentence to be commuted to long-term imprisonment.
00:49On Tuesday, Justice Hadariah Syed Ismail said the death sentence on the six former cadets
