00:00Turanganu Executive Councilor Hanafiya Matt has been slapped with two abusive power charges
00:05at the Kuala Turanganu Sessions Court. Hanafiya, who oversees the state's infrastructure,
00:12utilities, and rural development portfolio, pleaded not guilty after the charges were
00:16read to him before Judge Aswan Mustafa, Bulletin TV3 reported. He allegedly abused his position
00:23as an executive councillor and chairman of a company's board of directors by directing
00:27that his two children be appointed to positions in two state government-owned subsidiaries.
00:33The first charge accused the Chukay Assemblyman of using his position as an ex-co and chairman
00:38of Pankalan Bukalan Kemaman Sindiran Berhad to obtain gratification in connection with his son,
00:44Najmi Hanafiya. The offence was allegedly committed on August 15, 2020. Hanafiya was also accused of
00:51committing the same offence in obtaining gratification for another son, Ahmad Kamil Hanafiya, on June 18,
00:562020. The charges were framed under Section 23 sub 1 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act
01:032009 and are punishable under Section 24 sub 1 of the same act.
