00:01The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia has called on the Attorney General's chambers and the police
00:07to explain why the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers implicated in Teo Benghok's death
00:13have yet to be held accountable.
00:16Suhakam today said that despite a Court of Appeal ruling in 2014 implicating MACC officers in Teo's death,
00:24no known criminal prosecution or disciplinary action had taken place.
00:30The rights body said this highlighted a serious gap in enforcement and institutional accountability.
00:37In a statement, it urged the AGC and the police to review the decision to classify a recent investigation into Teo's death
00:45as requiring no further action, or NFA, and to initiate the necessary criminal proceedings against those responsible for Teo's death.
00:54It said full details of the police investigation must be disclosed,
00:59along with an explanation of why the MACC officers implicated in the case have not yet been held accountable.
01:06Last month, the AGC said it found insufficient evidence to bring charges following the fresh investigation
01:13and maintain the NFA classification.
01:17However, Teo's family recently said it would not pursue a judicial review of the AGC's decision to classify the case as NFA.
