00:00The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has sentenced former Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin, or Chegubard, to four months jail for
00:09criminal defamation.
00:10The case involved remarks that could tarnish the king's reputation.
00:15His lawyer, Rafiq Rashid Ali, said Judge Norma Ismail ruled that the defense failed to raise reasonable doubt over the
00:22prosecution's case.
00:23The court imposed the sentence after hearing mitigation from both sides, but granted a stay of execution pending appeal.
00:32Badrul's bail was also increased to RM5,000.
00:35The 47-year-old was charged in April 2024 over remarks made on January 22nd that year.
00:42Under Section 500 of the Penal Code, the offense carries up to two years imprisonment, a fine, or both.
00:49Badrul was acquitted in 2025, but the High Court ordered him to enter his defense this year.
