Thunderstorms and rain are spreading from the Ohio Valley to a large swath of the Southeast this week.
Transcript
00:00Limited impacts, but most likely this is going to hug the coast for a while, Damien.
00:03So we have big concerns coming into the mid-Atlantic coast.
00:06In the short term, we've had some beneficial rain into parts of Kentucky today.
00:09That's right. We've had some much-needed rainfall here, helping out with drought for a lot of this region.
00:13But the rain will continue here, even as we head into this evening across this region.
00:17But overall, Florida is still getting soaked by rainfall.
00:21So here's the overall zone that we were tracking between yesterday and today.
00:24So any area, any towns, any cities in this zone had the risk of flash flooding.
00:29We still have some effects, some impacts still being felt.
00:32You can see there in Knoxville, Tennessee.
00:34So the western portion of this zone had the rainfall yesterday.
00:37The eastern portion of this zone had the rainfall for today.
00:40We're seeing widespread 1, 2, even 3-inch rainfall totals being reported.
00:45And I wouldn't be surprised if we see a rain gauge 5 or even 6 inches here,
00:49especially across the eastern portion of this zone.
00:51We had some flooding rainfall there, pretty bad in Lexington here for today.
00:56Now the rainfall, the heaviest rain is starting to work its way into Charleston there.
00:59So West Virginia is seeing the heaviest rainfall currently.
01:02We also have this band of rainfall working its way across Tennessee,
01:05just to the south of I-40 between Nashville and Knoxville.
01:08But for northern parts of Alabama and eventually northern parts of Georgia,
01:12we'll be watching out for some showers rolling in here as the sun sets.
01:15But as we head into tonight, there will still be some lingering showers
01:18and even roams of thunder from areas like Jackson, Mississippi, Montgomery, Alabama,
01:22Nashville into Atlanta.
01:23We'll also be watching out for some showers early Wednesday morning for both Charlotte
01:27and Virginia Beach.
01:28Some roams of thunder there in Roanoke as we head into the overnight hours.
01:32Heading into tomorrow, there will still be some organized rainfall across South Florida
01:35and a majority of the southeast.
01:37The Gulf Coast there from New Orleans to Panama City, including Mobile and Pensacola,
01:41we'll see some soaking rainfall.
01:43We'll also see some soaking rainfall across the Carolina coastal areas heading into tomorrow.
01:47But I will point out one of the good things is that from central and northern parts
01:51of the Florida Peninsula, Sarasota, Tampa, St. Pete, Orlando, Jacksonville,
01:56you'll see a break from the organized rainfall chances here for tomorrow.
01:59So that will overall be pretty nice.
02:01But temperature-wise, we're still going to see some warming conditions to the south,
02:04including some widespread 80s and even some 90s there across central and south parts of Texas.
02:09We'll see you next time.
