00:00OK, I said we talk a little Pistons. The draft is in the books. They made two picks over
00:04two days. The first one was Ron Hall in the second. We talked a little bit about yesterday
00:08and the other move they made yesterday. They actually traded up in the second round and
00:12they drafted Bobby Clintman, who was playing a little bit of European ball, was at Wake
00:17Forest the year before. They drafted two forwards. Clintman could be more of a shooter, at least
00:23at this stage of his development. Certainly don't have high expectations for any second
00:27round pick. Nothing against Bobby. When you look at the draft in its totality, Trajan
00:32Langdon's first, he was given a C plus grade by ESPN. John, does that sound right to you?
00:37Well, for the guy that doesn't give grades, then, yeah, sure. Was it a very average draft?
00:43Yeah, because there is a huge upside, you know, in terms of what you could expect from
00:51the first round pick. And that is maybe the most athletic player in the draft. Now, does
00:56he have the numbers in regards to shooting? No, he doesn't. But you have brought in who
01:03you think is a magician in Fred Vinson as your shooting coach. And he is going to be
01:08tasked with, as the roster stands right now, trying to help so many try and improve their
01:18shooting. What he brings is athleticism and aggression on defense. And the problem that
01:24I think a lot of people are having, the problem I'm having is I don't want to be patient anymore.
01:27A pick like this 18 years old. Yes, there's great upside, but it's going to take time.
01:32And if you can wrap your head and I'm trying to get in the place where this is Trajan Langdon's
01:37first year, he's wiped the slate clean of everything. Now he gets a chance to build
01:43his roster and you know, in his vision, but this is very much a repeat of last year's
01:50pick.
01:52Yeah, I think that was the fear and it's not his fault. He didn't make last year's pick.
01:55He's not responsible for Ivy and Durant, although if he doesn't trade them, I guess eventually
01:59they become his players. No, I try to be fair. I don't think Langdon is all of a sudden a
02:07bad hire because of this draft. I don't think that Ron Holland is a bust. I just don't know
02:15that it helps their best young player have success next season, the player they're about
02:21to hand a max contract to. And I do pour one out for Kate Cunningham. The Pistons finally
02:25get a number one pick first time in 50 years. Some of it is he's got to stay healthy, but
02:29even when he stays healthy and they don't have any floor spacing, the last four lottery
02:32picks that the Pistons have made, not Langdon, the last four lottery picks the Pistons have
02:37made, Jaden Ivy, 33% from three last year, Durant zero. I mean, just what it is. Assar
02:47Thompson was an 18% three point shooter and Ron Holland's most recent season was 24% from
02:51three. Like it does eventually have to become a team and Langdon is not going to be held
02:56to the fire if he doesn't build a team in the first three minutes on the job. But my
03:00pushback is they certainly didn't do Kate any favors with their pick in the top five.
03:06And if you don't think Kate is like the, the building block, like I know Valenny doesn't
03:09view him as like the slam dunk max guy. You know, he loved the Holland pick because you're,
03:14you're not building around Kate in his eyes. So in that standpoint, yeah, you are starting
03:17from scratch and maybe you would give them a higher grade than, than even ESPN did. I
03:21think C plus is fine. C plus is a fair grade, 2, 4, 8, 5, 3, 9, 97, 97.
