00:00Hey guys, WFRO Nature and Environment in Japan playlist, and yes, it's dragonfly time again.

00:07We love these guys, as some of you already know.

00:10Every year we try to capture some good video of them, and it's really hard.

00:16They're really elusive.

00:18When they're flying they're really shifty.

00:20They buzz around and change direction really quickly, and very, very hard to track with a camera.

00:25And then occasionally they'll settle on a stick.

00:28They like settling on a single stick like that, but not for long.

00:33So you've got to be pretty quick.

00:35So we were actually at the school for a school event, and they had this pond full of reeds,

00:41and full of dragonflies, red and blue dragonflies, which are pretty rare.

00:47It's not often we get particularly the red ones.

00:49We've had a few videos of the red ones, but they are pretty rare compared to the others.

00:54So we couldn't believe it, so many red dragonflies and blue dragonflies in one spot.

00:59So it's sort of nice, isn't it, having that at the elementary school?

01:03A little bit of nature in the middle of the school.

01:08So I managed to catch a couple of them.

01:10So we love these things.

01:11They're beautiful.

01:12They're beautiful to watch.

01:14They don't do any harm to people.

01:16In fact, they eat mosquitoes.

01:19So when you see them buzzing around in the air, changing direction like they're doing,

01:23quite offering they're catching mosquitoes out of the air, which is just what you want, isn't it?

01:28Perfect.

01:30So they have fish in the water eating the mosquito larvae,

01:34and they have the dragonflies buzzing around eating the mosquitoes in the air,

01:38which is brilliant, isn't it?

01:45So this is this year's effort at catching the video of the dragonflies.

01:53We're never quite satisfied with it, but there it was.
