00:00Hey guys, this video probably deserves to go on our myths about Japan playlist.
00:05Some of you guys might be aware that there was a fairly serious earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan on July 28th
00:13and lots of buildings lost power, a couple of buildings collapsed, there was a big explosion at a shopping centre,
00:20a couple of people died.
00:21So it was fairly severe.
00:22So after that and since then, there's been a video circulating of these Indonesian guys sitting outside their dormitory
00:34with a stack of boxes of food and drinks from Family Mart.
00:40So the video claimed that these guys had stolen this stuff from Family Mart
00:46because obviously after earthquakes there's a fair bit of confusion and power out and things like that.
00:51So occasionally there is looting after earthquakes, not real common in Japan but it does happen.
00:57So these guys were accused online and apparently the post was reposted over 12,000 times
01:06claiming that these foreign guys, these Indonesian guys had been stealing this stuff from Family Mart.
01:13The truth was that these guys actually worked for Fujipan, which is a food company, a bread company in Japan.
01:23So they're employees of Fujipan and because of the power outages and things, Fujipan couldn't deliver these things to Family
01:30Mart like they intended to.
01:32And because these employees of Fujipan had no power at their dormitory, they were sitting outside
01:38and the company gave them these food and drinks as relief, earthquake relief, right?
01:46Free food and drinks from the company to support their workers who were without power.
01:52So these guys were victims of an earthquake, 100% innocent, had not committed any crimes at all
02:00but were widely accused of being thieves on the internet and people reposted that post 12,000 times.
02:11So it really struck home to me this one because it reminded me recently when we did the posts about
02:17the fires in Japan.
02:18There'd been some fires at some temples and shrines which Japan has had fires at shrines and temples for thousands
02:26of years
02:26as we pointed out in that video.
02:29But in the comment section of those videos too, without any evidence at all and offering no evidence at all,
02:37people were accusing certain foreigners of having set these fires.
02:43And there's been no, since then there's been no evidence or proof offered by anybody,
02:48officially or unofficially or on television or in the media or anywhere,
02:53has anybody come up with anything to justify any of that.
02:56So I thought this particular case with these Indonesian guys was a really good example
03:02of how people should be careful about rushing to accuse people of crimes when there's absolutely no reason to
03:12and there's no justification to, there's no evidence.
03:17So some people don't seem to care about the evidence.
03:20If something happens they just look to blame somebody and they don't care if they've got evidence at all.
03:26They just clearly blame someone as they did underneath those videos of ours.
03:29No, I have no evidence at all, but it was these people.
03:34I believe it, so it must be true.
03:37So we should be careful doing that, shouldn't we?
