00:00Hey guys, so it's another immigration related video and again it's not good news, sorry, but we've got to inform
00:08you any updates, we promise that any updates to the visa system or the immigration system we'd advise you, so
00:14here we are.
00:16So, a few of the new fees that they've introduced, so to renew your visa, if you're here already and
00:24your visa is expiring and you need to renew it or you want to change to another visa, it was
00:306,000 yen, which is about $40 and the new cost is 75,000 yen, so what's that 12 times,
00:39more than 12 times higher, 75,000 yen at the current exchange rates is about
00:46$500 US, $500 US, it was $40 US, permanent residency, if you want to apply for permanent residency, if you
00:58qualify, if you haven't seen that video yet, check that out, it's become a lot harder to qualify permanent residency,
01:03just briefly, you need income of about $40,000 US over the last five years and you need to show
01:13that's going to continue, you need to do the
01:15equivalent of 30 years of paying into the pension system and you need to pass a written reading and writing
01:26Japanese test, moving on, PR, so permanent residency, yeah, it was 10,000 yen, which at the current exchange rates
01:37is about $70,000 US, it's going to be 200,000 yen, which at the current exchange rates is $1
01:44,400 US,
01:46so it's gone up from $70 to $1,400 US, so 20 times more expensive, visa extensions, yeah, so if
01:58you want to extend your visa, if you're here and you want another three months, or you want another 12
02:02months or something, another three months will cost you 10,000 yen, that's about 60 bucks,
02:09if you want to extend it for one year, it's going to cost you 33,000 yen, that's about $200,
02:14three to five years will cost you 64,000 yen, which is about $400, and if you want to extend
02:22it by more than five years, it'll cost you about $500, 35,000 yen,
02:30and, yeah, we're seeing, so yeah, it's got more, everything's got more expensive, obviously,
02:37it seems, it seems the money is the thing, with all this new immigration stuff, most of the underlying tone
02:45is about money,
02:46it's just making sure that the only people that can stay here, the only foreigners that can stay here have
02:51got money,
02:52that seems to be the underlying, underlying background to all the new rules, is that if you don't have money,
02:59you can't stay here,
03:01so there's been endless stories popping up, popping up since they brought in the new rules, and since
03:10the new permanent residency rules, so lots of people thought they'd apply, that they'd be able to get that,
03:15now can't, that business manager visa thing, we're seeing a lot of sad stories there, the one I saw this
03:24week
03:25was about an American guy that has been here for 18 months, and he was going to open a language
03:31cafe
03:31or something, and he was all ready to go, and of course, on that business manager visa, we made a
03:37video
03:37about that before, the old system was, he needed Goyakuman, which was about, which is about $30,000, $35,000,
03:47and the new system is, he needs Sun Sen Man, which is, which is about $200,000 US, and he
03:56can't,
03:57he doesn't have a spare $200,000 US, apparently, in cash, so the sad story was that, you know,
04:03this is what he's planned, was to open this cafe, but he can't do it, so he's going back to
04:07America,
04:08which is sort of, that seems to be the goal that the current Japanese government has,
04:15is that if you don't have the money, you're not allowed to be here, that seems to be across the
04:19board, or everybody, whatever visa that you want, or whatever route it is that you want to take to be
04:27here, any foreigner that's going to be in Japan has to have money, and if you don't have money,
04:33you can't stay, that seems to be the underlying, underlying thing, so if you can't afford all
04:38those fees, you've got to go home, so, eh, always somebody writes, it's their country, they can make
04:46the rules, that's right, it's their country, they can make the rules, that's the rules they're making
04:51at the moment, so, so, yep, that's what's happening, so I'm sorry guys, every time we make a video
04:57about this immigration stuff, it's never good news, but we promise that we keep you updated,
05:01so, that's the latest, more videos, coming soon!
