00:00hey guys so you guys might have seen a video I made recently talking about
00:04temples burning down in Japan and addressing a myth that it was being done
00:08by foreigners so in that video so you might recall we suggested that if
00:13anybody had any evidence that foreigners were damaging temples in Japan that they
00:18should post a link under that video so that we could all see it nobody did
00:23although people had lots of opinions on what was going on however this week
00:29we had this in the news a court in Japan on Thursday handed a Manhattan doctor a
00:36suspended sentence of 18 months in prison after finding him guilty of vandalizing
00:41two ancient religious sites capping more than a decade of litigation that led to
00:46a rare extradition from the US to Japan so Masahide Kanayama 63 years old had been
00:53accused of smearing an oily liquid on wooden pillars at a thousand-year-old
00:58Buddhist temple on the outskirts of Tokyo and an offerings box at a Shinto shrine
01:03founded in 643 BC both incidents took place in 2015 apparently did some other
01:10places as well it's been alleged dr. Kanayama practicing Christian admitted
01:16during the trial that he had damaged the sites I poured the oil believing it was
01:21I was being guided by the Holy Spirit but it was it was my own misconception he told
01:26the court according to NHK this has been reported by NHK in her ruling on
01:32Thursday the judge of the court in Chiba noted the historic and cultural value of
01:39the structures and said the act of prioritizing one's own religious beliefs to
01:43commit the crime warrants severe condemnation so there it is as we always say on
01:49this channel if people present evidence or if there's enough evidence that warrants a
01:55story being reported on then we'll report on it so in this case it was a
02:02Japanese citizen who's a permanent resident in America and a Christian
02:08damaging temples and shrines in Japan that's what we're seeing that's what we're
02:14reporting more videos coming soon
