00:00 Congrats on this nomination.
00:01 Thank you so much.
00:02 Thank you.
00:04 You know, what an honor.
00:05 Humble.
00:06 First time.
00:07 I'm just trying to soak it all in.
00:09 Yeah.
00:09 And so are you somebody who's ever been to the Spirit Awards
00:12 or been around this?
00:14 First time at the Spirit Awards, but I've always been a fan.
00:17 Big fan of independent films.
00:19 Glad this award-- this festival exists-- not festival--
00:22 this award show exists to be able to really highlight
00:24 independent films and stories.
00:26 Yeah, they do a good job at championing
00:28 independent films.
00:29 You know, look back on your life.
00:31 Is there an independent film or performance
00:33 that you remember seeing that really changed
00:36 your idea of what a performance could be or do,
00:39 or an independent film that had a big impact on you?
00:43 I mean, I was a part of one that was really awesome early
00:46 in my career called Bella.
00:48 And that movie really stuck with me.
00:49 It's a Latino story with a Latino director in New York.
00:53 It just has that, like, you know,
00:55 everyone's on that set because they want to be there.
00:57 It's not a lot of money.
00:59 But other films, you know, Moonlight
01:01 had a huge impact on me.
01:03 And Fruitvale Station as well.
01:04 Like, I just-- those human stories that you know
01:07 are so hard to get made and put together,
01:09 but they're made with a lot of passion.
01:12 I don't know.
01:12 They resonate for me.
01:13 What's the most indie you've been on set?
01:15 Like, is there a production you had
01:17 to, like, live without a trailer,
01:19 change in the bathroom?
01:20 Yeah, I mean, you know, I started with student films.
01:24 That's as, like, gritty as it's going to be.
01:25 You've got no money.
01:26 You're in a dorm room, maybe.
01:28 You know, like, it's all guerrilla style,
01:31 running around, shooting what you can.
01:33 But there's an energy and an excitement of that
01:35 that I think also inspires really great ideas.
01:37 Just because you have a lot of money
01:39 doesn't mean you're going to have, like, the best ideas.
01:41 In fact, sometimes when you're forced
01:42 to work with not a lot of money, I
01:44 feel like there's a lot of creativity
01:46 that can come from that.
01:47 By the way, congratulations just also, too, on the show.
01:50 Will Trent, you're one of the rare ones.
01:52 It's still, you know, holding it down in broadcast TV,
01:56 getting additional seasons.
01:58 You have a strong audience that really loves you,
02:00 and loves the work, and loves the show.
02:02 I mean, do you think a lot about how--
02:05 I mean, I don't want to say how fortunate you are,
02:07 but also just, like, you know--
02:11 broadcast TV has changed so much.
02:12 So, like, are you counting your blessings every day
02:14 that this is still going on?
02:15 Without a doubt.
02:16 I mean, it's not even, like--
02:18 it's true, it's hard to get anything to last and be viewed.
02:22 There's so many opportunities.
02:24 There's, like, a massive saturation
02:25 of content, stories, movies, channels.
02:28 And so, you know, I didn't--
02:30 you never know what's going to work, and what's going to stick,
02:33 and what audiences respond to.
02:34 We're lucky that this story happened to be one.
02:37 Whether it's the characters, the storytelling, the writing,
02:40 it's working.
02:41 I'm grateful.
02:42 I'm really, really thankful.
02:44 I do recognize how lucky I am to be working.
02:46 And we're just pushing and doing our best.
02:49 We're in the middle of production right now,
02:51 trying to make the best season to keep audiences engaged.
02:55 Dive deeper into these characters and their stories.
02:57 And at the end of the day, I think
02:59 that's what people do connect to, a character,
03:01 and sort of relating to them somehow.
03:03 So, yeah.
03:04 And where are we with the production?
03:05 Did you guys-- are you just back up and running from the strike?
03:08 Or where are we right now?
03:09 We're in the middle of the season right now.
03:11 We just premiered last week.
03:12 So those episodes airing are right on our tail.
03:16 We're in the middle of filming.
03:17 We're right now in Atlanta at the midpoint.
03:19 And I'm really proud so far of what we've been able to do.
03:22 What we have in the can is really great.
