00:00 Senior Superintendent of Police Roger Alexander issued a statement via voice
00:04 note with regard to the concerns raised about him on the TV6 Beyond the Tape
00:09 program during a public hearing of the Parliament's Joint Select Committee on
00:12 National Security on Wednesday. An independent senator at the JSC would
00:17 have made certain statements about my involvement with the Beyond the Tape
00:23 program where it was stated that I was going contrary to the policies of the
00:31 Toronto Bagel Police Service, the executive, with respect to guns. A
00:38 reference to the statement made by the Vice Chairman of the Joint Select
00:41 Committee, Independent Senator Paul Richards, as he posed the question to
00:45 Police Commissioner Ulla Hayward Christopher on Wednesday. Is there a
00:49 particular mandate for Beyond the Tape? Is there a particular mandate for the
00:57 Beyond the Tape show? And I ask the question in context that very often I
01:01 hear utterances in that show that are in stark contradiction to what the police
01:04 leadership is saying. And it is very surprising to me. So the police
01:09 leadership says one thing about gangs, the show is saying we're giving the gangs a
01:16 fly. I don't know where the independent senator got that statement from. However,
01:22 I'm sure that I never made that statement, will never make that statement as it
01:29 relates to the gangs etc. And I'm asking for a public apology. If the independent
01:37 senator can find the evidence, bring it for me and I will apologize to him.
01:45 Senior Superintendent Alexander said he is reminded of his own imperfections
01:49 every day, but is employed with an independent organization which operates
01:53 on discipline, respect and pride. TV6 News received the confirmation Mr.
01:57 Alexander was instructed not to appear on the Beyond the Tape program on
02:02 Thursday. Jule Brown, TV6 News.
