00:00 Good morning, Kapuso! Welcome back to Pinoy MD,
00:03 the Philippines' most trusted health and medical program.
00:06 And of course, we're joined by the doctors of the country
00:09 who have been with us for 13 years when it comes to our health.
00:13 No one else but Dr. Raul Quillamor, our obstetrician-gynecologist.
00:19 Good morning, Doc!
00:20 Good morning, Connie! Good morning, Doc Oye!
00:23 To our Kapuso, good morning to all of you!
00:26 Yes, and of course, we're also joined by Dr. Oye Balburias,
00:30 our certified health and wellness doctor.
00:33 Good morning!
00:34 Yes, good morning, Connie! Good morning, Doc Q!
00:36 And of course, good morning to our Kapuso!
00:38 Thank you for your 13 years of support to Pinoy MD.
00:42 In the flesh, hold it.
00:44 There, it's true.
00:46 But I'm happy that we're here in the flesh, together, right?
00:52 Although, unfortunately, our resident dermatologist, Dr. Jean Marquez,
00:57 won't be with us today.
00:58 But you're doing great, Dr. Jean.
01:00 Meanwhile, in the past decade or so,
01:04 our doctors of the country have been
01:06 listening to your questions about our questions for health.
01:11 So, here we go!
01:13 We'll start with the questions you sent to Doc Q and of course, to Doc Oye.
01:18 Alright, here's the first question for you, Doc Q.
01:21 Ready?
01:22 Can a pregnant woman who has high blood pressure
01:27 take a maintenance medication?
01:29 A woman who has high blood pressure
01:32 and is taking maintenance medications
01:34 can be pregnant
01:36 as long as the medication given to her is safe for pregnancy.
01:39 Because there are medications that a pregnant woman can take.
01:43 So, if the medication she's taking before she got pregnant
01:46 cannot be taken during pregnancy,
01:48 the doctor will replace it with a medication that is appropriate and safe for her pregnancy.
01:54 So, there's nothing wrong with it.
01:56 Jenny Dizon asked this question.
01:58 Hi, Jenny!
01:59 So, it's not bad if the doctor has supervision.
02:04 There are safe medications for blood pressure in pregnant women.
02:08 There.
02:09 Alright, and of course, for Doc Oye,
02:11 here's the question for you.
02:12 Is it dangerous if a person has anemia?
02:15 And what are the benefits of having anemia?
02:19 This is from Abu Hiban.
02:21 Hi, Abu!
02:22 Here's the answer.
02:23 Yes, Abu, it's dangerous to have anemia,
02:27 especially if it's very low.
02:29 Because it can compromise various organs of our body,
02:33 especially our heart.
02:35 In fact, it will cause many symptoms
02:38 if the blood pressure is too low.
02:41 One sign of anemia is iron deficiency.
02:44 So, if it's iron deficiency, anemia is the cause of anemia.
02:48 There are many foods that you can eat that are rich in iron,
02:52 like animal foods, red meat,
02:56 beef or chicken.
02:58 The same goes for foods from plants,
03:01 like green vegetables and cruciferous vegetables,
03:05 like spinach,
03:07 malunggay,
03:09 petchay.
03:10 All green vegetables are rich in iron.
03:13 Nuts, legumes, or beans are also good.
03:17 Tofu, from soy, is also rich in iron.
03:20 Grains, like quinoa, are also high in iron and fiber.
03:24 So, those are the foods you can eat
03:26 to increase your blood pressure,
03:28 especially if it's iron deficiency anemia.
03:32 Thank you so much, Dr. Q,
03:34 and of course, Dr. Oye,
03:35 for answering that question.
03:37 And of course, for our loyal Pinoy MD viewers
03:43 who have trusted us for the past 13 years.
03:46 Thank you.
03:47 Keep those questions coming.
03:48 And if you still have questions,
03:50 don't forget to send them to our official Facebook page.
03:54 And we're back here at Pinoy MD,
03:56 the program you've been waiting for,
03:58 "Usaping Pangkalusugan."
04:00 And we're still here with our two outstanding doctors,
04:05 Dr. Q and Dr. Oye.
04:07 Alright, and speaking of health,
04:09 you know that the World Bank has data
04:13 that the average life expectancy of Filipinos
04:16 is only 71 years old.
04:18 Is that true?
04:19 That's a bit low.
04:20 But I read, Oye,
04:23 that women have a longer lifespan
04:26 compared to men.
04:28 So, that's also true.
04:29 We're the ones who are giving you the consummation.
04:32 Just kidding.
04:33 We're the ones who are consuming.
04:35 But you know, Connie,
04:36 we should also know that
04:39 the lifespan is different from the health span.
04:42 Because the lifespan is the number of years
04:47 that we live in the world.
04:51 But the health span is the number of years
04:54 that you're healthy, active, strong, and functional.
05:00 And of course, the health span, my dear,
05:03 is affected by our daily decisions
05:06 about our food, our sleep, and our lifestyle.
05:11 So, the health span is smaller
05:13 if all of these are compromises.
05:16 A lot of people can grow old
05:18 if they're healthy and happy.
05:21 That's our reality.
05:23 So, our goal should not only be to live long,
05:28 but to live with quality,
05:31 and to be active and healthy.
05:33 Yes, quality.
05:36 [Music]
05:58 you
