00:00 As the men in blue face the baggy greens down under for the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar
00:06 trophy, we take you through the history of this closely contested series.
00:11 The series is named after two legends, Alan Border and Sunil Gavaskar, both former captains
00:17 who were the leading scorer of their times and also the first two men to cross 10,000
00:22 runs in Test cricket.
00:23 The trophy was introduced in 1996 in a one-off Test match in New Delhi, which India won.
00:30 India retained the series at home, then the Aussies claimed it for the first time in 2000
00:36 at home.
00:37 Over the years, this contest has become one of the most competitive Test series, revealing
00:43 that of the ashes.
00:45 India has the upper hand as they have won the trophy seven times as compared to five
00:50 by Australia.
00:52 There have been just two instances when the hosts didn't win the series.
00:55 The first happened in 3/4 season when the men in blue managed to draw the series down
01:00 under.
01:01 The second instance was in the very next edition when the baggy greens managed to take back
01:06 the trophy by winning 2-1 in India.
01:11 Befitting to the rivalry, this contest has produced some of the best matches that Test
01:16 cricket has to offer.
01:18 Sachin Tendulkar remains the only person to have won Man of the Series award more than
01:23 once.
01:26 For the 2018 edition, India takes on a depleted Australian side, with two of the main batsmen,
01:33 Stephen Smith and David Warner, banned for their role in the infamous ball-tampering
01:37 controversy in South Africa earlier this year.
01:41 This might be India's best chance yet to win a series down under.
01:46 Both the sides have plenty of match winners, but the key players would be Virat Kohli,
01:52 Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah from India, and Tim Payne,
01:59 Usman Khwaja, Mitchell Stark, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood for the OCs.
02:05 Virat Kohli, who is in his last series in Australia along with Stephen Smith, took batting
02:11 to a next level, and the Indian captain is expected to continue his red-hot form in the
02:17 series.
02:18 The exciting young opening batsman, who injured himself while fielding during the warm-up
02:23 game against the cricket Australia XI, can still hope to feature in the later part of
02:27 the series and show his audacious talent.
02:31 Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, the two Bs, would be leading India's pace attack,
02:36 which has been recently claimed to be the best in the world.
02:41 Another Indian player who is likely to leave a mark is Rishabh Pant.
02:45 With India looking for a worthy heir to the legendary MS Dhoni and with an injured Vrithaman
02:51 Saha out of the picture, young Pant will be looking to use the series as his launching
02:56 pad.
02:57 Though he has been impressive with the bat, his skills behind the stump is still to be
03:02 proven.
03:03 In Steve Smith's absence, Australia will not only lose a world-class batsman but an
03:09 astute leader as well.
03:11 Tim Paine has led his team with dignity in these trying times.
03:14 It will be interesting to see how the wicket-keeper batsman copes in this high-intensity contest.
03:21 With former captain Ricky Ponting already prophesying Usman Khwaja to outscore Virat
03:26 in this series, the Aussie batsman will be under huge pressure.
03:31 But the series offers the Pakistan-born player a golden chance to show his worth to his adopted
03:37 country.
03:38 When Mitchell Stark, Nathan Leone, Peter Siddal, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, Australia
03:45 still have a world-class bowling attack, it will not be a walk in the park for India against
03:51 a full-strength Aussie bowling attack.
