In Bihar’s Vaishali district, Shivani Shukla, daughter of Bahubali Munna Shukla, is making her political debut from Lalganj on an RJD ticket, hoping to continue her family’s legacy.
Speaking to Outlook's Editor Chinki Sinha, Shukla said that today’s youth are disillusioned with token promises and want leaders who understand their struggles. She pointed to the growing inequality in society and questioned why only industrialists get access to vast tracts of land, suggesting that such resources should instead empower farmers and the poor.
00:00Your family has been in politics for a long time, and your father was injured,
00:05mother, who took the party with him. So how do you look at ideological issues?
00:10You are now contesting from RGP who said, I will always be there for Tejasama. What happened then?
00:16I said, if he does what he's saying, I am going to be right by you.
00:22What did he specifically say that you thought was better than the rest?
00:34Ma'am, see, firstly, he's promoting education. Secondly, he's talking about Rozgar, employment.
00:42The only problem is they are only saying it. Tejasama has proved it by giving 5 lakh jobs.
00:56So that's the person one should believe in. And that's what I'm choosing to do.
01:02The repeated pitch that they are making is that this is the saikar of young people. That is the change that they have made.
01:22I think that's not totally wrong. But I wouldn't just categorize it in one direction of people.
01:31I want to say it's a saikar of people. All together. And we also need to do that.
01:40And we also need to do that right now. See, now you listen to the leaders of Mahagarbundal.
01:48So you can talk a little bit about growing up. You went up in a family which was involved in politics in Vaishali, you know, in Bihar also.
01:55And then you went to UK to study law. But you said also that if not politics, you start practicing law and you still do social work.
02:02Yeah.
02:04So what did you see in politics going up? You're 28. So a lot of things had changed. You know, Lalu's thing was over by then, you know, there was a lot of other volatility in politics.
02:13No, I think here, in general, if you say, and if you talk about it, then in general, we young people, you'll see many young generation people haven't even registered themselves.
02:30Yeah, yeah. Now, if I come here, I saw it. And that's the reality I'm talking about. Many young people registered themselves.
02:41Okay.
02:42Why? Because they saw that somebody, somebody who they can interact with, somebody who would actually really listen.
02:51Yeah. Or somebody who's just like them. Yeah. Who would, who would think in their manner. Yeah.
02:57Yeah. Right.
03:14that, that we will deal with all the things that we will deal with, and you will study.
03:19Yes, you will study.
03:20You will name the child.
03:22My mom and dad have also done this.
03:25You will study.
03:27We will do everything.
03:30What that has done, is that the child is far from the reality check.
03:37And the reality check that they are getting to their children.
03:43Exactly.
03:44There is a huge difference between inequality.
03:46Yes, ma'am.
03:47Inequality is persisting and prevailing and actually thriving, I would say, in India.
03:51Yeah, yeah.
03:52The gaps are coming.
03:53It's very bad.
03:54It's very bad.
03:55And on top of that, what one hears is that Adani group's group just bought, not bought,
04:04leased thousand acres of land for one rupee.
04:10And then Mr. Amishra also comes and says that we have no land for industry.
04:13Ma'am.
04:14If it is so, so, sasta, agar ek mahine mein ek rupai milta hai ek ek ad ke land pe, ar itna sasta hai,
04:23toh mujhe hazaar karore ki, hazaar ekre ki zameen chahiyeh.
04:26Ma'am.
04:27Ma'am.
04:28Ma'am.
04:29Ma'am.
04:30Ma'am.
04:31Ma'am.
04:32Ma'am.
04:33Ma'am.
04:34Ma'am.
04:35Ma'am.
04:36Ma'am.
04:37Ma'am.
04:38Ma'am.
04:39Ma'am.
04:40Ma'am.
04:41Ma'am.
04:42Ma'am.
04:43Ma'am.
04:44Ma'am.
04:45Ma'am.
04:46Ma'am.
04:47Ma'am.
04:48Ma'am.
04:49Ma'am.
04:50Ma'am.
04:51Ma'am.
04:52Ma'am.
04:53Ma'am.
04:54Ma'am.
04:55Ma'am.
04:56Ma'am.
04:57Ma'am.
04:58Ma'am.
04:59Ma'am.
05:00Ma'am.
05:01Ma'am.
05:02Ma'am.
05:03Ma'am.
05:04Ma'am.
05:05Ma'am.
05:06Ma'am.
05:07Ma'am.
05:08Ma'am.
05:09Ma'am.
05:10Ma'am.
05:11Ma'am.
05:12Ma'am.
05:13Ma'am.
05:14Ma'am.
05:15Ma'am.
05:16Ma'am.
05:17Ma'am.
05:18They came from the same book now.
05:20And now, let's see who you are with Nitish Ji.
05:23But a lot of people say, I am not saying this, that he also navigated it very well.
05:28He did not let that hold.
05:30Ma'am, Nitish Ji has always worked.
05:32Nitish Ji doesn't say bad.
05:34Nitish Ji has started for 10 years, he has worked very hard.
05:37Then he made a double engine.
05:39Then it was very bad.
05:41Now, let's see, Nitish Ji doesn't say anything.
05:44You don't say anything.
05:46You don't say anything.
05:48But he doesn't say anything.
05:50I hope so.
05:52I hope he gave a message.
05:54Ma'am, it's the time that you see this NHL.
05:56Yeah.
05:57And the whole Marine tribe and everything.
06:00What happened?
06:01But the industry didn't happen.
06:03What happened?
06:04Ma'am, it comes from small things.
06:06One thing started.
06:08It was his time.
06:10My father was in the assembly.
06:13My father was in the city.
06:14They did not say anything.
06:15They did not say anything.
06:16They did not say anything.
06:17But they did not say anything.
06:18They did not say anything.
06:19What happened?
06:20Now, the light was on the back.
06:21Why did you say anything?
06:22Why?
06:23You told me, when light is free, you can go.
06:25What's the use of it?
06:26Yeah.
06:27Don't do it free.
06:28No.
06:29And double engine, it means that you should express yourself.
06:34You should push a lot of speed.
06:36Yeah.
06:37No.
06:38No.
06:39But in those days, when you were not there, probably you were very young.
06:44You know, there's this whole thing which has become like this huge catch word.
06:49The Jungle Raj.
06:50Now, with all this happening, I know, I know.
06:53It's a question that has often been asked.
06:55In fact, we did an issue called Jungle Raj and we had to suffer a great deal because,
06:59in fact, we were the only ones who said at that time that this Jungle Raj was not just
07:04a jag that was associated, that should have been associated with Lalu because it continues
07:08and Jungle Raj never really ended.
07:10And we had to suffer.
07:12But my other question is that in my travels, I mean, I'm from Bihar, I'm from Patna.
07:17I've always heard of these Bahupalis.
07:19Now, of course, you've spoken about it.
07:21And you have also defined the term Bahupali.
07:24Yes.
07:25Because we are trying to understand what is this.
07:30Why are people so fascinated?
07:32I don't know, ma'am.
07:33I don't know.
07:34The problem is that they have to understand the Bahupali's meaning.
07:39Yeah.
07:40They want to portray it.
07:45Because I think it's like our brother-in-law has said that in Bahupali,
07:50they left the Bahupali in Bahupali,
07:52for us to increase the TRP.
07:54That's right.
07:55That's right.
07:56The Bahupali is a TRP word.
07:58I think it's done.
08:00Because now they are saying that if the Bahupali themselves have been convicted,
08:04right?
08:05Conviction is above it.
08:06If they can't be convicted of jail,
08:08then they can take their children's children.
08:11They can take their children's children.
08:12And they don't understand that they are saying that they have been convicted of the Bahupali
08:15word.
08:16That's why they have been convicted of the Bahupali word.
08:17That's why they have been convicted of the Bahupali word.
08:19Because that's why people love him.
08:21The people's strength are with them.
08:24That's why they have been convicted of criminal charges.
08:27Not that there are many politicians who are criminal charges.
08:31But how do you deal with that dark shadow of your father in Bahupali jail?
08:39You also said,
08:40that my father will not leave the government.
08:43Yeah, so what did you mean by that?
08:45Because they are playing those reels on and off.
08:47That's a good thing.
08:48Yeah.
08:49You should do it.
08:50You should remember yourself.
08:52You should remember that there is a capable man.
08:55That's why I'm scared.
08:57You should remember that.
08:58That's why I'm scared.
08:59I'm scared or I'm scared.
09:01I'm scared when someone's wrong.
09:03I'm still scared by him.
09:04Then I'm scared by him.
09:05I'll leave someone alone.
09:07You should not be scared.
09:09If I'm reading and writing,
09:12if I'm not able to make this right position,
09:15then it will be my fault.
09:17I don't say that I will do everything in 5 years.
09:21I don't have a jadugr.
09:23And I don't have a job.
09:25I don't have a job.
09:27I don't have a job.
09:29I can work.
09:31But how will you...
09:33What is it that personally you saw in Mahishali when you were doing the rounds?
09:37Mahishali.
09:39What are you seeing in Lalkanj?
09:41Because we were looking around and there was a lot of...
09:45Like poverty.
09:47How do you think that you...
09:49I know that the Jasti has been searching around.
09:53But...
09:55Ma'am,
09:57Jaisi onhoonne bola
09:59Jaisi onhoonne bola
10:01Jaisi onhoonne bola
10:03Jaisi onhoonne bola
10:05Jaisi onhoonne bola
10:07Jaisi onhoonne bola
10:09Jaisi onhoonne bola
10:11Jaisi onhoonne bola
10:13That is true
10:25training centers and vocational centers, because we are still a labor state, so we export labor, right?
10:33It's an extraction kind of thing like that.
10:35If we export it, we don't know.
10:37And they say that it will be like 300 years, because we don't know where else.
10:42So, I am not sure why the industries are closed when they're selling?
