Outlook’s Editor Chinki Sinha in a conversation with Gyan Prakash, a local resident of Nadwan. The supporter of Anant Kumar Singh explains why the controversial Mokama Former MLA commands unwavering loyalty despite criminal cases and ₹100 crore in assets. “Where ministers can’t get things done, Anant Kumar Singh will,” says Gyan Prakash, who works at Ruban Memorial Hospital in Patna but campaigns in his ancestral village.
The strongman’s appeal lies in direct patronage — dowry assistance for marriages, help with funeral expenses, and funding for MBBS admissions — all offered with the assurance, “Return it when you can, or don’t.” Unlike ministers who live in Patna, Singh lives in Mokama among his constituents.
His political journey began with a promise made at a Thakur residence in 2000 to help elect Nitish Kumar during the 'Jungle Raj' era, breaking from the RJD despite warnings that he would not survive.
