06:33as you explore the hauntings of Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
06:39During the height of the White Plague epidemic,
06:41patients died here at an average of one every hour.
06:44Tuberculosis is essentially an infection that occurs in the lung tissue.
06:48The most common way for tuberculosis to be spread
06:50is as airborne droplets, as the patient coughs.
06:53In the early to mid-1900s, it was frequently fatal.
06:56You would basically suffocate as a result of fluid and blood
06:59that pools in the lung.
07:00Since tuberculosis was so contagious,
07:02not even doctors were spared.
07:04And many believe the ghost called the man in the white lab coat.
07:07He was one of the doctors and remains behind.
07:09I've seen numerous and numerous times a man in a white outfit
07:12from walking down the hallway.
07:13I got about 15 feet from me and disappeared.
07:15Because of the enormous number of deaths,
07:17one of the most common sights of spirits
07:19is what the locals call shadow people.
07:21You will see one person, then another shadow,
07:24then another shadow.
07:25So all of a sudden, black starts rolling down
07:27and rolling down and rolling down the hallway
07:29and just keeps coming and coming and coming
07:30until it totally engulfs you.
07:32For many, nowhere in Waverly Hills holds more mystery
07:35than the hauntings of room 502,
07:36where a nurse named Mary Hillenburg was found dead,
07:39hanged by the neck.
07:41We're not sure if she hung herself
07:44or maybe someone else hung her.
07:47Perhaps Mary's ghost remains behind,
07:49desperate to tell us the truth of what happened that night.
07:53Was it suicide or murder?
07:55I don't know what makes this place so haunted.

07:59Then maybe it's just all the energy
08:01from everybody that did die here.

08:04one of the most haunted places in the U.S.,

11:51Her face was twisted in pain.
11:53The sight made Elizabeth so terrified of dying
11:56that she swore she would never leave this room.
11:59After Elizabeth died in 1932,
12:01nurses reported seeing a black shape in this room
12:04and hearing the bed creak when no one was here,
12:07they suspected that it was Elizabeth's ghost
12:10still afraid to move on.

18:12hallway is an entity called Big Black.
18:14A massive wall of darkness that rolls down this hallway
18:17and swells up all the light as if it were alive.
18:20Some investigators have had success drawing out shadow people
18:23by using a strobe light in this area.
18:25Wait there and look for any shadow people.

23:26This area is haunted by a ghost known as the man in the white lab coat who wanders the fourth
23:31floor hallway.
23:32Some believe that it is the ghost of Dr. Joseph Kinds, a surgeon who contracted tuberculosis.
23:37He eventually ended up back in this surgery room.
23:41His chest cut open and several ribs sawed off to make room for his diseased lungs to breathe.
23:46But the brutal surgery was too much to take, and he died on the operating table.
23:51Now his ghost travels the hallway back and forth to this room, repeating the walk he made countless signs in
23:58life.

23:59You will reenact one of the tragic events common to the room and attempt to entice one of the many
24:06tortured spirits to make themself known.
