An award-winning South Korean film director has unveiled the world's first cinema-quality film shot entirely on an Apple iPhone.

Park Chan-wook, who was awarded the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival for his film Oldboy, was approached by South Korea's only iPhone distributor, KT Corp, to use their product for the filming.

The movie, Night Fishing, is 32 minutes long and was produced on a budget of £85,000. It was shot entirely with iPhone 4 handsets, fitted with various lenses.

Mr Park said: "We had about ten iPhones shooting scenes at the same time, and only three of them were controlled by the camera director. Basically two iPhones were filming most of the movie, but the rest were filmed by anybody on the field.

"In the last part of the editing process, I took a look at all the footage. Among them, I found very interesting shots with unique angles which the director didn't design. I used some of them (in the movie)."

Night Fishing is about a man who encounters a female shaman while fishing at night and is set to open in nine theatres in South Korea on January 27.
