00:00Well, good morning from Wembley. You can see the National Stadium is behind me.
00:04Thomas Tuchel, the England head coach, has just named his World Cup squad.
00:08And there are no surprises in it, only because we pretty much knew the squad last night
00:13as news made its way out after he'd phoned the hopefuls one way or the other to tell them the
00:18news.
00:19England's squad, though, is surprising when you look at it.
00:23There are some really interesting players who've missed out
00:25and some fascinating players who Tuchel has called up for this summer's World Cup.
00:30In the United States, Canada and Mexico.
00:32I think the most controversial pick is the striker Ivan Toney, formerly of Brentford,
00:35who I think many people felt that his international career was probably over when he moved to Saudi Arabia.
00:40But his goal-scoring record this season is 32 goals in 32 games,
00:44and he has made his way back in at the perfect time from his perspective.
00:48As a result, he's one of three strikers in the squad, along with Ollie Watkins and, of course, the captain,
00:54Harry Kane.
00:54There's no space for Cole Palmer or Phil Foden because of their difficult spells of form this season
01:00for Chelsea and Manchester City, respectfully.
01:03There's no space for Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton either.
01:07Fascinating calls all round.
01:08Harry Maguire not called up the Man United centre-back in favour of Dan Byrne of Newcastle instead.
01:15There's no Trent Alexander-Arnold.
01:16I think we probably expected that, but many England fans will be really disappointed
01:20that he's not been able to find his way back in.
01:22It means that there are calls up for the likes of Jed Spence of Tottenham.
01:27No call up for Lewis Hall of Newcastle either,
01:30but his Newcastle teammates, Anthony Gordon and Tino Libermento, are in.
01:35A fascinating England squad with plenty of quality in there,
01:39but plenty of quality left behind as well.
