Windows 11's search box is learning to do things, not just find them. 🔍
On October 30, 2026, Microsoft released new Windows Insider test builds, and in the Experimental channel the new Windows Search gets a big upgrade (Windows Insider blog, The Verge).
What's new in Windows Search:
• Inline sliders: search for a setting and adjust volume, screen brightness or cursor size right in the results.
• Phone actions: with a phone connected through Phone Link, search can call or text a contact, or turn on Do Not Disturb. Microsoft says Android support is available now, with iPhone support coming early next year.
• Richer results: file previews show details like the last modified date and the author.
• Web answers for things like weather and stock prices.
• Filters to narrow results to files, settings or actions.
Good to know: these features are in testing with Windows Insiders, so they are not on regular Windows 11 PCs yet, and Microsoft has not given a date for a wider rollout.
