00:01I'm going through a little bit of a personal crisis.
00:06I'm not...
00:08What is it going to take to get me mad?
00:14Probably re-upping and signing a contract that you have to do this show with me for the next five
00:17years.
00:17Oh, stop it. That's not true at all, and you know that.
00:21Saying that actually got me mad there for a moment.
00:24Because they lost, and I'm like, well, it was November 2nd yesterday.
00:30I know they lost to Oklahoma City, and it was Shea Gilders-Alexander basically one on five.
00:34And he probably could have put up 60 if he really wanted to.
00:39But I'm like, okay, they lost.
00:40I got to tell you, in so many ways, I was just happy to see them.
00:45I was just happy to see the Cavs.
00:48Isn't that terrible?
00:49Oh, because this one...
00:51Wait, did you watch it on Channel 19, or did you watch it on Peacock?
00:54I didn't know it was on Peacock until Owen told me.
00:56I'm sorry.
00:56We go from having some games...
00:57I'm sorry.
00:58...to where we're in the sports broadcasting desert.
01:01Yeah.
01:02And then we had a game like last night.
01:03Oh, it's on here.
01:04It's on NBA TV.
01:05It's here.
01:06It's Peacock.
01:07Wait, was it on NBA TV as well yesterday?
01:09It was available in five different places, according to my treasure map of where is the game played tonight.
01:15It was played on the TV at the gas station.
01:19Wait, is that right?
01:20No.
01:21That would be awesome.
01:22They should do that instead of just the same old...
01:25It's always like news based out of New York City.
01:29What?
01:29Oh, yeah.
01:30And Maria Menounos?
01:31Right.
01:32It's like, what's going on here in the five boroughs?
01:35I was just happy to see them on TV.
01:39I swear to God, I'm not being mean.
01:41I'm not being cheap.
01:42I'm sure there's somebody who's...
01:44Well, maybe I am being a little cheap there.
01:45Yeah, I've got quite a few texts saying you're being cheap.
01:48But already at 6.05, that's not true.
01:51No, in the last week.
01:52We came in at light speed.
01:53Whatever, I don't care.
01:55Well, one day I might take the gloves off and give the reason for it, but I don't think I
02:00want to do that right now.
02:03Anyway, I was just happy to...
02:05I was like, well, and maybe that's great.
02:07Maybe that takes the heat off the regular season.
02:09I'm like, well, maybe you should just be thankful you got to see him, Kenny.
02:12So maybe I'm not so mad after all.
02:15And I wasn't mad.
02:16Like, they were losing yesterday.
02:17I'm like, why are they losing?
02:18Like, it's one on five.
02:20Come on.
02:20And I'm like, they kept it close.
02:22And I'm going, eh, well, whatever.
02:23I swear to you, I swear to you, I did not feel any anger, vitriol, nastiness, red face, any of
02:33my usual...
02:35And I'm going, well, am I losing my edge?
02:37Am I losing my anger edge when it comes to this?
02:40Because I wasn't mad.
02:41I was obviously sorely disappointed.
02:44A little bit embarrassed, but it is what it is.
02:47When they went to Pittsburgh and lost on Sunday, the Browns.
02:50I wasn't mad that the Guardians lost the ALCS.
02:55And I'm not mad that they lost yesterday to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a game that was...
02:59So I've not been mad at high-stakes losses.
03:03I've not been mad at regular-season mid-stakes losses.
03:05And I'm not mad at really small-stakes early-season NBA losses to go, what's going to make Kenny mad
03:11now?
03:12What is going to make me mad?
03:14Will it be the final verdict in the university school's Glenville decision coming later today?
03:21Well, that all depends.
03:22I don't know.
03:23I'm more confused than mad right now.
03:26I've been told that's pathetic.
03:27We'll hear that later.
03:28Oh, that judge.
03:29The good thing, I think we can all agree.
03:32The good thing is this has not reached any kind of a racial component.
03:36That's what's good.
03:37Oh, wait a second.
03:38That's the whole thing.
03:41Well, choose your sides.
03:45You know...
03:46Use your battle stations.
03:48When do we get to do this conversation?
03:51Oh, well, the judge has to...
03:54Boy, they kind of have a playoff bracket here.
03:56Well, at 9 o'clock, he's going to reconvene the conversation.
03:58They're going to have it settled before Thursday, right?
04:00I mean, you know, at some point, remember the old days where the playoff coaches would have to meet halfway
04:06and trade their tapes, trade their VHS tapes?
04:09Yes, kids, that was a real thing back in the day.
04:11You'd meet at a restaurant at a diner.
04:13You'd have to have your local sheriff.
04:15You'd have some old man show up with a stack of VHSs with another old man,
04:20and if they weren't wearing football gear, you'd go,
04:22what the hell are these two guys doing with these stacks of VHSs?
04:25Because the sharps from Vermillion would be coming along the bend.
04:28They both kind of look like Bud Kilmer in their own way,
04:30and they're wearing the light jacket that says so-and-so staff on it,
04:34and they go, here's my VHSs, and here's your VHSs.
04:38And then it got to like that 8mm thing or whatever it was.
04:41It was probably that before the VHSs, and now it's all on huddle.
04:44I tell you, I tried to get a middle school to share tape for my middle school program,
04:49and they go, they don't want to share it.
04:51I go, well, just send over the huddle.
04:53They go, no, no, they don't want to share it.
04:54And I go, why don't you want to share it?
04:56They go, closed games, closed practices.
04:58And I swear to God, the answer was they're old school, and they don't want to share the tape.
05:01And I go, old school would be sharing VHS.
05:04They shared the tape in the old days.
05:07That's not old school.
05:08For whatever reason, they just don't want to share the tape that's being petty.
05:12Yeah, it's being pretty petty.
05:14Maybe an assistant coach creates a fake account with a parent's name,
05:17and they click in there and get a student ID.
05:20That's never happened before.
05:21This is middle school football.
05:23Like, what are you doing?
05:24Yeah, that's happened a million times, by the way.
05:26Well, Owen agrees.
05:27Of course, Owen agrees, because it's ridiculous.
05:29It's middle school football.
05:31What are we trying to hide here?
05:33It was asinine.
05:34I can't believe this is going on.
05:35We have the playoffs.
05:36Yeah.
05:36This week!
05:37This week!
05:38And then they have more games next week, because that's how a bracket works.
05:41Well, I've heard D3 will be decided in court, no matter what.
05:45Boy, that would be good if the rest of the bracket was just decided by judges.
05:48I don't want to...
05:50I know that they're not really in our area.
05:53Don't you feel a little bit bad for Salem in that situation?
05:55Yeah, what happened there?
05:56Do you know who to get ready for if you're Salem?
05:58Right, right.
05:59And what?
06:00The other team played one ineligible player and won the game, and so the OHSA said...
06:05Well, that was Liberty.
06:07That was Youngstown Liberty.
06:08That was Liberty Biberty?
06:09Home of the...
06:09Oh, yeah.
06:10It was Liberty Biberty Leopards, and they played Canton Central Catholic, and they used
06:13one ineligible player.
06:14You can't use any ineligible players.
06:16You can't even have one or two.
06:17You can learn that from the 1970 Sooners, buddy.
06:19You can't be playing ineligible players.
06:21That's not how that goes.
06:22Better watch it.
06:24What?
06:24You want the truth?
06:25What if I gave you the truth?
06:26Oh, stop it.
06:27The rosters are so big, you can't have even one or two?
06:29Feels like we've had whole state championships decided by ineligible players.
06:32Wasn't the bootlegger boy's fault?
06:34That was Chuck Fairbanks' fault.
06:35Boom.
06:36Take that.
06:37Not you, but anybody who's a Sooner hater.
06:40We'll get to that.
06:40Yeah, we will get to that.
06:41Back to the Cavs.
06:42Back to the Cavs.
06:42I was going to ask you, glass half empty or half full?
06:45I'm half full.
06:45Let me present to you one.
06:46All right.
06:46But I think I'm going to be half full.
06:48Let me present.
06:49I'm presenting again.
06:49Please do.
06:50You love a good presenter.
06:51I do.
06:51Go ahead.
06:52All right.
06:52So the Thunder were missing.
06:55Jalen Williams, who's most likely out for the year.
06:58Chet Holmgren, who's out eight to ten weeks.
06:59Alex Caruso, which there was nobody happier to see that he wasn't playing other than James
07:04Harden, because actually James Harden got to keep the basketball last night, as opposed
07:08to give it away.
07:10Case and Wallace dealing with the shoulder situation.
07:13And then they had two kind of bit role players who were out as well.
07:17So this was your best chance.
07:18You were four and a half point favorites in this game, in which it's not too often anybody
07:23gets to be a favorite over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
07:26That's the glass half empty.
07:29You're supposed to win that game at home.
07:31What's the glass half full now?
07:32Because I thought you were going to say glass half empty, and I'm like, glass half full?
07:36And I go, well, that's not really positive, but go right on ahead.
07:38The glass half full is that the Cavaliers have a steal in the draft.
07:43And this isn't just me saying it.
07:45It's not just some local Homer Cavs fans.
07:48It's not just the broadcast or anything like that saying it locally.
07:52No, they got an absolute steal.
07:54And he got in the starting lineup yesterday, Malik Thomas.
07:57And we know that kid's not gun shy when last week he was referring to himself as a star.
08:02A star in a closet.
08:04Yeah, but out of the closet.
08:05He's coming out of the closet.
08:07He's back out of the closet.
08:07He said he was in the closet as a star.
08:09He said you can't keep a star in the closet for long.
08:11Yeah, nobody keeps baby in the corner or the star in the closet.
08:14Okay, I like where his head's at.
08:15I like this.
08:16Malik Thomas was the 34th overall pick.
08:19He's a second-round pick.
08:20If you were a second-round pick and you're going to be in the starting lineup of a team that's
08:23supposed to be competitive, you better have an asinine amount of self-confidence.
08:26So I'm down with this.
08:27I totally agree with him.
08:29They got him on camera staring at Donovan Mitchell on numerous occasions going, why aren't you
08:34passing me the ball?
08:34Yes, good.
08:35I like it.
08:36I like it.
08:37This happened yesterday.
08:38And, you know, the stat line, 7-16, took a bunch of shots, 3-9 from three-point range.
08:43Actually biffed a layup under a minute and a half to go that was huge and a great pass,
08:48I think, for Donovan Mitchell.
08:50But he's good.
08:51Like, he is a good player.
08:53He is going to continue to be good.
08:55And you saw kind of a glimpse of the future with him in the starting role because you
09:00didn't have Peyton Watson.
09:01You didn't have Jalen Tyson.
09:03That's awesome.
09:04And I'm glad to hear that.
09:05Let me throw one little thing where it kind of goes glass half empty now.
09:12Does Malik Thomas end up in a situation like Colin Sexton where he hits a big three, turns
09:18and points at benches, and the bench just laughs at him?
09:20You remember that used to happen.
09:23Colin Sexton used to hit big shots, and he'd turn around and talk trash to the bench,
09:26and the bench would just laugh at him.
09:28Not ours.
09:28I mean the other teams.
09:30Does Malik Thomas ever find himself in that spot?
09:32I'll tell you.
09:33I think this is a player.
09:34I hope he doesn't.
09:34I think this is a player that's going to have instant respect.
09:37The way he carries himself, the way he moves on the floor, the fact that, you know,
09:43he's listed at, he's listed at like 6'4", but he plays, kind of plays bigger than
09:48that because of, he's got this.
09:51And I'm going to take glass half full.
09:53Well, I wasn't done.
09:54I'm sorry.
09:55I wasn't done either.
09:56I know it's a small thing.
09:57It's not like he had a massive night last night, but anybody kind of paying attention
10:01to Tyrese Proctor here in his second year, that dude looks like a player.
10:07I mean, he's already wrestled the spot away from Craig Porter Jr., and last night I know
10:14it was a game where fans wanted him to just take it ultra seriously and win, and they
10:19did.
10:19You know, at times, it wasn't a game where they didn't get back on defense or anything
10:23like that.
10:24It was just the Thunder.
10:25Thunder are really a great organization.
10:27They know where each other is, even though they're on all their backups, with the exception
10:31of Shea Gildas-Alexander.
10:33They know where to go.
10:34They draft so well, Oklahoma City.
10:36They're the gold standard of the NBA in terms of all of that scouting, and they have a system.
10:41They play their guys.
10:42They play a system.
10:43So, like, they're not as wounded when they're playing with their backups because they just
10:47know where to go, how to be.
10:48The Cavs aren't in that situation.
10:50The Cavs, they have their starting five, and, you know, they didn't have Peyton Watson
10:55last night, so they were going to play these younger kids a little bit more, and I was
11:00really encouraged, not that they lost again.
11:02It sucks that they lost the game, and there's a bunch of reasons I wrote down that they lost
11:05the game, but it was great to see them have younger guys and even the new blood, even
11:11though he's old blood in Hazonia.
11:14So, he played some weird groups last night.
11:16I think that it's just, it's the time of year, and, like, if he plays, well, plus, you've got
11:22a back-to-back.
11:22You're going to stay in the Haunted Hotel, what, tonight, as you play Oklahoma City tomorrow
11:27night at Oklahoma City.
11:29So, you play the weird back-to-back schedule, so you get the West, you get the best team
11:33in the West, arguably, out of the way.
11:35So, that kind of is like, well, that's early in the season, but it's an early season test.
11:39I understand that.
11:40But I'm just a lot more understanding of the regular season, and I've got to admit, there's
11:44a bunch of different factors of why I'm not as angry as maybe I should be over a regular
11:51season loss.
11:52Where you were favored against a team that is seen as a bit of a measuring stick.
11:55One, if you win that game, they would go, well, it was Shea Gilders-Alexander versus
11:59five, which makes it worse that you lost.
12:01I understand there's two sides to that coin.
12:02Yeah, you would have gotten not a ton of credit.
12:03The other thing is, is that, again, it's November.
12:06I'm only being honest.
12:07I'm not trying to take cheap shots.
12:08The other thing is, is that people actually got to see him yesterday.
12:12So, that was nice for everybody involved that you actually got to see him, so you're
12:15thankful to actually get to see him.
12:17And then the other part of it is, is that if you're developing young guys who could possibly
12:20help, like, I don't know if I'm going to still, because he's so young, I don't know
12:23if I'm going to rely on Malik Thomas if you go to the postseason.
12:26However, you know, what are the other guys, when we get them worked in, how is that going
12:30to take him, how are we going to take advantage of that?
12:32So, it's a long season, and to me, it's a long ramp up.
12:35Like, you've had two years, 64 games, 64 wins, two years ago was awesome.
12:4152 wins wasn't as awesome because of the way that the season ended the year before.
12:45And now, I just, I really do think the regular season is just a giant formality to everybody.
12:49So, if they go and they lose a couple of games in a row, maybe I'll change my tune.
12:53If they continue to play sloppy, then maybe I'll change my tune.
12:56But losing against Oklahoma City in November, in early November, is not something that I'm
13:03hitting panic buttons about.
13:04Like, I don't want to fire Kenny Atkinson.
13:06I don't want to make major changes.
13:07I don't want to do any of that stuff.
13:09And so, it's like, I kind of want to see how this plays out here.
13:12Well, and they have a chance to get behind the eight ball here because of the schedule.
13:16I understand that, yes.
13:17Because they've got Oklahoma City, like you said, again, with the two games and three
13:21nights.
13:22Then, they have a cup game at home, the vaunted cup, against Philadelphia.
13:27And the 76ers are 7-1.
13:30I didn't even realize the cup was already starting.
13:32You can't, well, I thought it was a mid-season tournament.
13:34It's not the beginning of the season tournament.
13:35Well, they had cup games last week, last Friday.
13:38They stagger them a little bit.
13:39So, like, half the league.
13:40They played seven games already.
13:41I know that, but that's still, it's still early in the season.
13:44The season started two weeks ago.
13:45Oh, the 10th of the schedule is already played.
13:48Yeah, and then they got the Knicks.
13:49That's still not midway.
13:50So, here's the other problem.
13:51You would have to say 50% of the schedule for the mid-season schedule.
13:54It's not called the mid-season cup.
13:55It's not called the mid-season cup.
13:56I thought I was supposed to take it as a mid-season.
13:58It's called the in-season.
13:58Technically, they could open up the season with a cup game.
14:01It's called the in-season cup.
14:01And that would still be in the season.
14:03The Emirates in-season cup.
14:05Yeah.
14:06I don't think the Emirates have flown in yet.
14:08No.
14:09They're not in season yet.
14:11Yeah.
14:11I think they ripen in, like, mid-November.
14:14Yes.
14:15Will the Emirates be able to get through the straight of her moves?
14:18That's the question for the cup.
14:19All right.
14:20That's enough of that already.
14:20All right.
14:21So, after you've got Philadelphia, you've got the Knicks the very next night.
14:25And you're going to go all out to win that Philadelphia game because it's a cup game, Kenny.
14:29And you can scoff all you want.
14:31I know internally you're scoffing.
14:33I'm not.
14:34The external skeleton of Kenny is dead serious.
14:37But internally, you're scoffing.
14:38I'm not scoffing at the NBA Cup.
14:41You don't scoff at this.
14:42The music has made me take it much more seriously than I ever have.
14:45It's scoff-free music that we play here on The Fan.
14:48Serious music.
14:48Unscoffable.
14:49And then they get...
14:50Like the beginning of Falcon Crest.
14:52Then they've got, you know, next week they've got the Knicks again on the road at MSG.
14:58So, they've got a rough stretch here.
15:00They've got a bunch of losable games.
15:01But here is the glass half full.
15:03I want them to be playing Malik Thomas.
15:06I want them to be playing Proctor.
15:09And Cezonia's a vet, so they should be playing him anyway.
15:12Well, they can.
15:12So, I want them, even if it comes at a risk of discombobulated lineups.
15:19And last night they had some weird ones.
15:21But this is the time to try stuff.
15:24Is it not?
15:26Is it not?
15:27What are the reason why I'm not mad that they lost?
15:31And they couldn't get an offensive rebound.
15:32I mean, a defensive rebound to save their life.
15:34And again, they didn't hit free throws.
15:35Well, that's another problem.
15:37I thought they moved the ball the best they've moved all year.
15:39Yesterday.
15:40I did.
15:40I thought they were unselfish.
15:42I've got to check something before I say that.
15:432-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
15:45All right, coming up at 8 o'clock this morning, we'll have Zach Jackson.
15:48He'll join us from The Athletic.
15:497 o'clock, 7 in heaven.
15:51Has Lima dropped the Browns from his 7 in heaven after Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers?
15:58Have I dropped the Browns out of my 7 in heaven after the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers?
16:02We will get to this Glenville thing coming up here in a little bit.
16:04But coming up in five minutes, there's maybe two quarterbacks I could think of who could
16:09have kept the Browns in that game on Sunday.
16:11And that should really be a defense of Deshaun Watson.
16:13Ken Carman, Anthony Lima, live on the fan.
