00:14Sean Horkoff. We're talking Dylan Larkin. He is suspended without pay. He is refusing to play
00:18for the Red Wings. I think his position is you're not a real GM and you can't pull off this
00:23very
00:23real trade. You can't sign Simon Edvinson. The organization can't even pick a GM. I'm done.
00:28I'm over it. I'm out. And while there was some sympathy, that's out the window when you refuse
00:34to show up to work and do the job. Yep. I mean, yeah, there were a lot of people that
00:39were trying
00:39to rationalize different ways to support Dylan Larkin. All of that was evaporated yesterday.
00:46Yeah, I think he has stooped to their low. This is a race to the bottom. This is the ugliest
00:52possible
00:52outcome. He isn't trying anymore. If he was trying, you were going to have some people
00:58who would show him grace. Okay. The injury wasn't a fake injury. You actually came out
01:07and played, scored a couple goals. We can question your effort. You were out there. You were accountable
01:12to that degree. You have removed yourself from the situation. You have quit in every essence
01:17of the word. Cannot have your back now. No. Now both sides and both parties are racing
01:23to the bottom. How do you think his teammates are handling this? A cider said after the game
01:28last night meant a little more. I don't know if they hate the guy. I think they're over
01:33it. Yeah. They don't want to answer these questions anymore. They're probably relieved
01:39that he's no longer there. And after the game last night, they were going to be asked the
01:43question about what was it like without Dylan Larkin? What do you, what does this feel
01:46like out there knowing that this is going on? Honestly, they won't have to address those
01:52questions anymore. Like what will somebody seek him out to land a big physical check when
01:57he is traded? You know, it was a lack of respect lost. If there was respect, it's, I mean, how
02:07do you respect it now? Right? Like John, how would you feel about that? It's one thing. Hey,
02:11my teammates going through contract dispute, but he's still showing up. He stopped showing
02:15up. Would you lose respect for a teammate? Yeah. I mean, there's, there's holdouts that
02:19last through training camp, but if you're missing no big deal, but now all of a sudden, now you're
02:24messing with my money because we're not as good of a team now as we were with you. You
02:31start messing with other guys money. That changes the tenor of how I feel about this. How
02:36about this? A text just made this point. What Larkin makes in a day is what people
02:41make in a year. Yeah. Now connected to the Laporta stuff from last week where people
02:46were mad at Sam for being tone deaf. Dylan Larkin is willing to shed and shred your
02:53yearly salary today. And then he's going to do it again tomorrow. Right. He's
02:56going to do it again the day after that. If you didn't hate this guy, that's enough
03:00to make you hate the guy. Yeah. This is day two of his suspension. And the, uh, the
03:04Dylan Doe meter is now up to $55,615. Text coming in. What should Dylan Larkin be for
03:12Halloween? This says, uh, he should dress as Matthew Stafford. Someone said he should
03:18dress as Scooble. No, this is a solution is trade him to the Dodgers. What should the
03:24wings expect back in a trade? A top six forward, two futures and a first, you know,
03:29all kidding aside, he should go to the LA market. The other two did. Hey, by the
03:35way, somebody, you know, you know, who's running the LA hockey team, the Kings, uh,
03:39Jeff Greenberg, Ken Holland, full circle. It's taking longer than drafted him. Yeah.
03:47It's taking longer than 10 years. Ken. Hey, real quick on Twitter. Uh, you, you're in
03:51costume today. Somebody called you the Jim creeper. Oh yeah. Look, I, I probably should
03:57hold the ax closer to the camera. So the executioner look, you brought your battle
04:01ax with you today. Yeah. So I want to be clear. I don't think this was the best costume
04:07choice for the show. My plan. A didn't arrive on time. I paid for the expedited
04:12shipping. I was going to be Fred Flintstone. It was going to be a whole bit
04:14about John's the caveman, but now I get to be the caveman. Instead. I had to go to
04:18the backup plan because some friends did a medieval theme Halloween party. And this
04:22was the costume that I have for that. I thought you're going to be John Travolta.
04:25Uh, I'm in here in your a disco outfit. All white. If I dressed in disco today, I don't
04:31think you guys would let me do the show. I think I would have been no forced to go
04:35home. Yeah. With what's at stake for the lions this week. Heather and I would have
04:39done the four hours and then just fine without you. Sure. I would have been on the
04:42Dylan Larkin plan. Yes. Yes. Yes. Leave your check at the door. Uh, let's go to the
04:47phone. Scott in Redford. You're on 97 one. Hey guys. Um, I just gotta say, I don't
04:54blame Dylan Larkin one bit. And for the people that are making this about money, Larkin is
05:02not making it about money. So he's not, it doesn't fall into the same tone deafness as
05:08Sam Laporta. Um, he's done everything he could. How many times you guys seek out trades and then
05:19not show up like hell a buck. Right. I mean, I think he did, he went as far as he
05:27could
05:28with how incompetent this organization has been over the past, however many years you want to say.
05:35Yeah. And then we see exactly how bad it was because Larkin exposed it. I mean,
05:43I don't blame him one bit. Get me out of here. So Scott, I think John and I have echoed
05:47some of
05:48those sentiments, but for us, it's different because he's refusing to play that doesn't bother
05:51you. No, honestly, he did show up to play for the first three weeks of the season. And with the
06:02way this organization is being run, he probably feels if I keep showing up to play, I'm never going
06:07to get moved. Well, if he had made this, if he had made this request the week after the season
06:16ended and just said, I'm done, I'm out and, and now put this in your off season plans, the rest
06:22of
06:22the NHL Red Wings, put this in your off season plans, move me. I want out. I would be more
06:29on the
06:29side of Dylan Larkin now because you had the entire off season when teams were putting their cap
06:35and their team together. Right. But I think part of it's the timing of, of when he came out and
06:42then it's complicated because of the timing of the Red Wings and the GM and the interim GM and like
06:47all of that, but it all started late. And the first one to start things late was Dylan Larkin.
06:53He did not do this well. He could have done it better in that same world. If the wings don't
06:59hire a
06:59GM and have the clown car of an off season, we still might be in the very same spot today.
07:05Even if he had done things well. And I think that's where the frustration comes from. He
07:09didn't do it well. Right. And that's why I think you have every right to point fingers at both
07:13parties right now. Yeah. Uh, Brett, you're next. You're on 97 one.
07:21Hey guys. Can you hear me? Yeah, we got you, Brett. How you doing this morning?
07:24Hey, I'm doing great. Thank you. I love the show. Thank you. I just wanted to say, um, I think
07:29the
07:30reason why this hurts so bad is we were all kind of living in this fantasy that we had
07:34this captain who might've been making this sacrifice, you know, showing the ultimate
07:39character by throwing away his childhood dream and doing what he had to do to fix the
07:44wings. But now we've been given the other reality where he's basically just said that
07:49Detroit's not good enough. And when that happens, you know, that's not like they're
07:54playing the worst hockey right now. It's not like they came out flat and the start
07:58of the season. And it's, he's kind of showing that the whole summer was exactly
08:02the opposite of what we thought it was all about him leaving the team and things
08:06like that. It wasn't about, you know, being a great leader or a great character
08:09and show, you know, that could be a folklore in Detroit. Some guy who puts all
08:14this behind him and does all these things for us, but now he's going to go to public
08:18enemy number one for us because we're not good enough.
08:22I get what you're saying is if he was truly the agent of change, he could have
08:26spun this into a favorable, you know, he could have been a, you could have had a
08:31higher favorability in Detroit. I think it's very clear. He doesn't want to be
08:35here. Made that very clear. This wasn't about exposing the Red Wings. It was about
08:40never wanting to play for the Red Wings ever again. Yeah. And I get it on some
08:45level, but I think you're going to lose people and he has. Oh yeah. I think he's
08:48lost anybody that was sitting there supporting Dylan Larkin. We've had a
08:51couple of people that still support him, but I think the 99% of people are
08:55like, you know, screw this guy. Yeah. Done with him. Texas, the Wings
08:59haven't operated in good faith. I can't blame Larkin for saying you guys are not
09:02serious people. I quit. Okay, then we're not going to pay you, which is where
09:08we've arrived, which is where we are. Yeah. I would agree with the critique that
09:12they aren't quote serious people. They haven't been able to sign Edvinson. They ran a
09:1560 day search with a hundred names and couldn't produce a general manager. We've documented all
09:19of it, but Larkin is now not a serious person. Right. And, and, and, and I don't know that
09:24the Wings can seriously approach any team on that list and expect to get a commensurate
09:30return for trading Dylan Larkin because of the mess because well, because of the mess, but
09:35it's also because of the timing of everything that, that he has put the wings in this position
09:41and other teams are other teams that clearly want him, but there aren't a lot that can
09:46fit him under their cap as it's currently constructed, even though he's got a beneficial
09:50contract. And there's also a lot of teams that are just like, you know what? Our team
09:54is set. The reason he's here is because of his list, right? He'd be in Montreal or Philly
09:59by now, maybe somewhere else. If they won't run, if he didn't have the list and the damn
10:03shame is from a hockey standpoint, he'd be a great fit with Montreal, but I'm an American
10:07player. I can't go play in Canada. That's, that's a bigger issue. It's a problem for
10:13the NHL. It really is that these, uh, all these Olympians are forcing their way out of
10:18Canada. Again, the great irony that all the great American players want to team up
10:22somewhere and they don't want to come to the American team that has won the most
10:25Stanley cups, right? I don't like them anymore, to be honest with you. Americans
10:28are Larkin the American hockey team. I'll tell you, I think the way they are in over
10:34the course of the last several years, I don't want out. Hella buck. He's a local
10:39too. Yeah, it's not good. It's not healthy for the sport, right? Larkin should be a loaf
10:45of bread made from his dill and his dough signed Steve in Macomb. Some great texts coming in
10:52on that. We got a lot to do this morning. It's 97 one.
