00:22Let us pray
00:25Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ
00:29Who, when your disciples and friends deserted and left you
00:33Remained alone in the hands of sinful men
00:36Like a most gentle lamb
00:38Within the jaws of a ravenous wolf
00:43Strengthen my excessive weakness
00:45And confirm my too great unstableness
00:47By the support of your grace
00:49And join me to yourself with the bonds of love
00:53That I may neither have no wish nor the power
00:56Ever to depart or separate myself from you
01:01Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ
01:04Who allowed yourself to be led around bound
01:07By an armed band and taken to Annas
01:12Allowing yourself to be stood before him
01:14As though you were a common criminal or robber
01:19O unspeakable gentleness of my Redeemer
01:22Look, while they take and drag and thrust you forward
01:27You uttered not a single word of complaint
01:30Or murmur or word of resistance
01:33But in silence you followed them wherever they led you
01:37Obeying their commands
01:39And permitted their wanton injuries to you
01:44Grant, O Lord, that these your virtues may shine in me
01:47To the everlasting glory of your name
01:51Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ
01:54King of heaven and earth
01:55Who in great humility
01:57As poor and needy and of no account
02:00Was stood before the proud high priest
02:03And most sweetly endured the dreadful blow
02:07Which his impious servant put upon you
02:12Restrain, I beg you
02:13In me all outbreak of anger and passion
02:17Suppress all acts of indignation
02:20And quench within me all desire of revenge
02:24That when I am provoked by injury
02:27I may not be disturbed
02:28I may offer no resistance
02:31May suffer no disquiet
02:34But endure everything with a quiet mind
02:36May I even repay evil with good
02:41Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ
02:43Who permitted himself to be lead-boned
02:46In a shameful manner to Caiaphas
02:48That you might deliver us from the penalty
02:51Of eternal death
02:52Restoring to us true liberty
02:56Make me most ready
02:58To endure every reproach
02:59And all contempt for your name's sake
03:03Grant that in the very middle
03:05Of ridicule and outrage
03:06I may give you thanks with a perfect heart
03:09And by means of these trials
03:11May grow and increase more and more
03:14In your love
03:18Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ
03:20Who, when three times denied
03:23By your Apostle Peter
03:26Mercifully turned and looked upon him
03:28With kindness
03:29And brought him to repentance
03:31And holy sorrow for his sin
03:33In like manner
03:34May you turn upon me also
03:37Your eye of mercy and love
03:39That I may weep over my past sins
03:42With the tears of true penitence
03:44And may never again commit them
03:47May I never be found sinning
03:49Against your goodness
03:50In word or deed
03:54Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ
03:56Who stood before the elders
03:58And the people of the Jews
03:59With a calm countenance
04:00And humble look
04:02Who did not refuse to be falsely accused
04:05And to suffer many injuries
04:09Give me grace never to say an untrue word
04:11Or to falsely accuse my neighbour
04:14But that I may bear with all quietness of heart
04:17The calamities that are heaped upon me
04:21Casting all my troubles upon you
04:23May I always, in silence
04:25Look for the grave and consolation
04:28At your hands
04:32Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ
04:35Who, when Caiaphas the High Priest
04:38Adjured you by the name of God
04:41Declared the truth
04:42And proclaimed yourself the Son of God
04:44And did not refuse to be counted by him
04:47And the rest who stood by as a blasphemer
04:50May I fully abhor this contempt
04:53And defence against you
04:54May I, in every place
04:57Reverence the presence of your divinity and majesty
05:03May I think of you
05:04Adore, praise and love you
05:07Above all things
05:08Forever and forever
05:11Amen
05:15O Lord, open our lips
05:17And our mouths shall sing your praise
05:27O be joyful in the Lord
05:30O be joyful in the Lord
05:32O be glad
05:33Serve the Lord with gladness
05:37And come in all his prayers
05:40And to give a talk
05:43Be sure that the Lord
05:47He is God
05:49He is God
05:51If we see that shall fail us
05:53That not we ourselves
05:55We are his people
05:58And the sheep of his pasture
06:01O be joyful in the Lord
06:04Who do your ways
06:05Through his peace
06:06With thanks
06:07And into his arms
06:12With praise
06:13Be thankful
06:22For the Lord
06:24For the Lord is gracious
06:25His mercy is everlasting
06:44Glory be to the Lord
06:48Glory be to the Father
06:49And to the Son
06:52And to the Holy Spirit
06:56And to the Holy Spirit
06:57As it was in the beginning
06:59Is now and ever shall be
07:05World without end
07:09Amen
07:13Amen
07:15Amen
07:18Amen
07:23The hands declare the glory of God
07:28The hands declare the glory of God
07:29The hands declare the glory of God
07:30And the prophets show every standing choir
07:34One place to E難 and another
07:38And one might satisfy the number
07:43There is neither speech for language
07:48But their voices are wide upon them
07:53Their songs go out into all the lands
07:59And they march into the end of the world
08:04In their promises and sorrowful for the sun
08:11Which come and fold as a bride who runs on his table
08:16And rejoice in us as a child to love his cross
08:22With royal form from the uttermost parts of the heaven
08:27And run at the parts of the end of each other
08:32And there is nothing in the man is there on
08:40The Lord of the Lord is ever in my love
08:45I'm not in your style
08:47But it's in the view of the Lord is strong
08:52And he is with the world who wants to learn
08:57The sustenance of the Lord are bright and rejoice the heart
09:04The commandment of the Lord is pure
09:08And heareth light unto the eyes
09:14The fear of the Lord is clean and enjoy it for ever
09:21The sustenance of the Lord are true and righteous
09:26So to heaven
09:28For to be his son of a man come
09:33Heareth much and gone
09:36Street of the stone and honey and the honeycomb
09:43The sustenance of the помощ veil
09:45For all mycker woes
09:47But alone
09:48I'm a thief
09:52I'm a thief
09:56Who wants to learn
09:59And heal
10:03Who wants to quiet
10:06Who wants,
10:09Who wants,
10:11Who wants,

11:27A reading from the Gospel according to St. Luke, Chapter 22.
11:35Now the Feast of the Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.
11:40The chief priests and the experts in the law were trying to find some way to execute Jesus,
11:45for they were afraid of the people.
11:49Then Satan entered Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was one of the twelve.
11:55He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard
11:59how he might betray Jesus and hand him over to them.
12:03They were delighted and arranged to give him money.
12:07So Judas agreed and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus when no crowd was present.
12:15Then the day for the Feast of the Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed.
12:22Jesus said to Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare the Passover for us to eat.
12:29They said to him, Where do you want us to prepare it?
12:32He said to them, Listen, when you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you.
12:39Follow him into the house that he enters, and tell the owner of the house,
12:43The teacher says to you, Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?
12:49Then he will show you a large furnished room upstairs.
12:53Make the preparations there.
12:56So they went and found things just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
13:05Now when the hour had come, Jesus took his place at the table, and the apostles joined him, and he
13:10said to them,
13:12I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
13:17For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
13:23Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it amongst yourselves.
13:30I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom
13:34of God comes.
13:37Then he took bread, and after giving thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying,
13:43This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.
13:50In the same way, he took the cup after they had eaten, saying,
13:54This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant of my blood.
13:59But look, the hand of the one who betrays me is with me at the table.
14:04For the Son of Man is to go just as has been determined.
14:08But woe to the man by whom he is betrayed.
14:12So they began to question one another as to which of them it could possibly be who would do this.
14:20And the dispute also started amongst them, and for which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.
14:27Jesus said to them, The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them are
14:35called benefactors.
14:38Not so with you.
14:40Instead, you will be the one who is greatest amongst you, must become like the youngest, and the leader like
14:47the one who serves.
14:49Or who is greater, the one who is seated at the table, or the one who serves?
14:54Is it not the one who is seated at the table?
14:58But I am among you as one who serves.
15:01You are the ones who have remained with me in my trials.
15:06And thus I grant you a kingdom, just as my Father granted to me,
15:10that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom,
15:14and you will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
15:20This is the word of the Lord.
15:23Thanks be to God.
15:30Jesus tells us here of the Passover feast greatly desired.
15:37We cannot enter into the divine intensity of this desire,
15:42but it would seem that the longing Christ had to eat this Passover with his disciples before he suffered,
15:47arose from the consciousness that in the hour and in that act
15:53he would forever put an end to shadow
15:57and bring in the substance of our redemption.
16:01And because that hour was the winding up of the long years in which he had waited
16:05for his bitter passion,
16:07that last mournful Passover
16:09was as a solace to the Son of Man.
16:13It was sad but sweet.
16:21What a light these words cast on the blessed sacrament which he left to us
16:25and on the law which binds us to it.
16:29For it shows us that the holy sacrament is this last Passover continuing still.
16:35What was then begun is a perpetual celebration.
16:39In heaven and in earth it is but one act still,
16:43one priesthood and one sacrifice.
16:47The church is the upper chamber spread abroad,
16:50a spear above this visible world,
16:53hanging over all the earth.
16:54It is in all the lands, under all the skies,
16:58upon all the floods and in the mountains,
17:00in the wilderness and on the shores.
17:02Wherever two or three are gathered together,
17:05there is the upper chamber,
17:07the paschal table,
17:09the disciples
17:10and the Lord of the true Passover,
17:13sacrifice and priest.
17:18This may show us still further
17:20that with the desire he desires
17:22to still to eat the sacrament of his love with us.
17:26The first moving cause of this divine desire is
17:29that he may pour forth his blessings of power and grace upon us.
17:35He desires to apply to us the benefits of his passion.
17:39He desires to give himself
17:41to be our spiritual food.
17:44He desires to make us,
17:46even now in this life,
17:47behold his love.
17:50Love pent up withers away,
17:52but divine love cannot be straightened.
17:56It is like the light of heaven
17:57which pours down in floods upon the earth.
18:01Our Redeemer is not only very God,
18:04but very man
18:04in all the truth of our humanity
18:06and his human affections
18:09follow the laws of our perfect manhood.
18:12With desire,
18:13he invites us to himself
18:15that he may show to our intimate consciousness
18:18the personal love
18:19which moved him
18:20to give himself
18:21with full intention
18:23for each several soul.
18:28We find in these words
18:29a double reference
18:30to his character
18:32and to it the office
18:33of the Son of Man.
18:35To his character
18:37as the lowly one
18:37to his office
18:39as servant.
18:41For the purpose
18:42of bringing these things
18:43before his disciples,
18:45he makes use of those
18:46marvellous words
18:47I am among you
18:49as the serving one.
18:52Let us consider
18:53three things
18:53about this sentence.
18:55Its history,
18:56its nature
18:57and the ends
18:58and objectives
18:59which it was intended
19:00to meet.
19:03It was not
19:04with his birth
19:05in Bethlehem
19:05that Christ's service
19:07begins.
19:10His visit
19:11to our first father
19:12in paradise
19:13was his true commencement.
19:16After that
19:17we find him
19:18age after age
19:19visiting the children
19:20of men
19:21and always
19:22in the character
19:23of one ministering
19:24to their wants.
19:26At his birth
19:27his life of service
19:29visibly began.
19:31It is a willing service
19:33it is a loving service
19:35it is a self-denying service
19:37it is a patient
19:39and unwearying service
19:40and it is a free service.
19:44And it is to sinners
19:46that this service
19:46is rendered.
19:48There is much in this
19:49to exhibit the ends
19:51which it has in view.
19:52We need forgiveness
19:54cleansing
19:55healing
19:55strength
19:56wisdom
19:56faith
19:57and protection.
19:58He gives these things
20:00to us
20:00according to our need.
20:02In every scene
20:03and place
20:04and duty
20:04and struggle
20:05and trial
20:05he will be
20:06at our side
20:07as the servant
20:09to minister to us
20:10in everything
20:11so that in nothing
20:12we may be found
20:13lucky.
20:16Personal rivalry
20:17is an age old
20:19problem.
20:20Going right the way
20:21back to the beginning
20:22of the Bible
20:23with Cain
20:23and Abel
20:26what we catch here
20:28is a glimpse of it
20:29with the disciples
20:29arguing about
20:30which of them
20:31would be the most important.
20:34What a particularly
20:35silly argument.
20:36There they are
20:37sat around the Passover table
20:39eating the last supper
20:41and they are having a row
20:42over who gets to be in charge
20:44after Jesus has left them.
20:47If you ever needed proof
20:48of how ordinary
20:49and just like us
20:50the disciples were
20:51looking at them further.
20:54Jesus quickly
20:55put them right there.
20:56True leadership
20:57comes with service
20:59and duty
20:59and obligation
21:02not with servants.
21:08Let us pray.
21:12Lord we beseech you
21:14to keep your household
21:15the church
21:16in continual godliness
21:18that
21:19through your
21:20protection
21:21it may be free
21:22from all adversities
21:24devotefully given
21:25to serve you
21:26in good works
21:27to the glory
21:28of your name
21:29through Jesus Christ
21:32our Lord.
21:33Amen.
21:38May the Lord bless us
21:40and keep us
21:41from all evil
21:42bringing us
21:44to everlasting life.
21:46Amen.
21:48Amen.
21:49Amen.
21:50Amen.
21:53Amen.
21:53Amen.
21:53Amen.
21:53You
