00:22Let us pray, praise honour and glory be to you O Christ who your
00:29faithless disciple Judas sold for a vile sum of money to the Jews who were persecuting
00:35you and conspiring against your life. Root out, I beg you, from my heart, all evil love
00:42of any creature. Grant that I may never prefer anything to you. May I always show the most
00:51perfect charity towards all men, especially those who trouble me. Pardon me, my Holy Redeemer,
00:59for having so often prepared vain and perishable things to you and for having, for the sake
01:05of vile pleasures, turned myself from you. Praise, honour and glory be to you O Christ
01:12who ate the Passover with your disciples at Jerusalem according to the commandments of
01:18the law, giving them an example of humility and holy love by kneeling down on the ground
01:24and washing their feet, wiping them with a linen cloth. I pray that this your example
01:31may penetrate my soul, destroying thoroughly any haughtiness and pride within me. Give me
01:39O Lord the deepest humility that I may without delay perform the lowest ministry to all men.
01:46Give me perfect obedience that I may with complete diligence observe as your commandments whatever
01:52your appointed representatives may decide. Give me the most fervent charity that I may sincerely love
02:02all mankind. Praise, honour and glory be to you O Christ who out of your unspeakable love gave us
02:11the sacrament of the Eucharist and in it given yourself to us with wondrous liberality so that you
02:19might remain with us even bodily unto the end of the world. Grant me I beg you O Lord an
02:28earnest longing
02:28and in kindle in my innermost soul an intense hunger for this adorable sacrament. Grant that when I go to
02:37the table
02:38of life I may receive you with chaste affection, complete humility and perfect purity of heart. May my soul so
02:47thirst for you now
02:48and so languish in your love and so languish in your love that I may one day be found suitable
02:53to enjoy the delights of your eternal kingdom
02:56to the glory everlasting of your name. Praise, honour and glory be to you O Christ who when you were
03:04about to leave
03:05the world commanded and comforted with words of unspeakable sweetness your disciples and most earnestly
03:14commended them in prayer to your Father. Most plainly showing how tenderly you loved them and us who were to
03:23believe
03:23through their word. Grant that my heart may ever more relish your word and that I may find your words
03:32sweeter than honey
03:33to my taste. O that the spirit of that burning exhortation may so glide into my heart that I may
03:41be
03:42wholly transformed into your love. So direct all my ways O Lord my God that your holy will may be
03:50done
03:50in and by me for ever and ever. Praise and honour and glory be to you O Christ who went
03:58out with your
03:59disciples across the Kedron brook and came into the garden which you knew would be where you would be
04:06taken. May I entirely give up my will and always follow and love yours. May I for your honour and
04:15for
04:15the salvation of my brothers and sisters boldly endure any adversity and be willing even to lay down
04:22my life if your divine providence should so ordain it. Praise honour and glory be to you O Christ who
04:32as your passion
04:33drew nigh began to be sorrowful and sad with a heavy heart and so that by transferring the weakness of
04:40all your
04:41members to yourself you might be able to console and strengthen them when they were in their time of fear
04:48at the
04:48approach of death. By this your own weakness which you have willingly taken upon you. Preserve me I beg you
04:58both from the immoderate sorrow and from foolish gladness. Grant that the grief which I have thus far
05:06endured may be for your glory and for the remission of my sins. Remove mercifully from me all distrust and
05:15unnecessary weakness and confirm and establish my soul whole in you. Praise and honour and glory be to
05:24you O Christ who fell prostrate on the ground and prayed to your Holy Father humbly offering your whole
05:30self to him saying your will be done. Give me grace in every necessity and trouble to fly to you
05:40in prayer
05:40and freely and freely to resign and myself give myself up to your will. May I never unduly endeavour to
05:50escape from
05:51trouble but receive all things from your hand with a quiet mind and may I endure everything in meekness of
05:59spirit
06:00for your love. Amen. O Lord open our lips and our mouths shall sing your praise.
06:17prayer forgiven. O Lord open our lips and такая grace. O be joyful in the Lord,

12:09evildoers. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac and
12:16Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves will be thrown
12:21out. Then people will come from east and west and from north and south and take their places
12:27at the banquet table in the kingdom of God. But indeed, some are last who will be first
12:33and some are first who will be last. At that time, several Pharisees came up and said to
12:42Jesus, get away from here because Herod wants to kill you. But he said to them, go and tell
12:49that fox, look, I am casting out demons and healing today and tomorrow and on the third
12:55day I will complete my work. Even so, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the next
13:01day, because it is impossible that a prophet should be killed outside of Jerusalem.
13:08O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you. How often
13:16I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,
13:22but you would have none of it. Look, your house is abandoned, and I tell you, you will not
13:29see me until you say, Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
13:36This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
13:45The Jews were expecting the coming of the kingdom of heaven, but they had very false ideas of what
13:52it would be like. They expected deliverance from the Roman occupation and the re-establishment
13:59of their own nation-state, which they had lacked since the time of the fall of Jerusalem to the
14:05Assyrians. Since then they had been passed as a colony from one empire to another, Babylonian,
14:13Persian, Greek, and no Roman. They thought that its arrival would be dramatic and unmistakable.
14:24How wrong they were, and in this passage Jesus gave two examples of just how it really would
14:30be. The beginnings of the kingdom would be small and insignificant. Jesus gave the example
14:38of a mustard seed, a tiny speck of seed, which one day would grow into a large and significant
14:44plant. To this he added the example of yeast, which is added to flour to make the dough, which
14:51swells quickly in time, to make something much bigger, a wonderful loaf of fresh bread.
14:59What they did not grasp, and the disciples did not fully understand either until somewhat
15:04later, was that Jesus and his band of disciples were represented by that seed. From the tiny
15:12and insignificant beginning beside the seed of Galilee, the seed of the kingdom of God
15:17was planted, which would grow and become the church of Christ, spread throughout the world.
15:23That little seed would grow shoots and spread like a vine, putting down roots in every place
15:29it came to. When Jesus said in Mark 9, 1, that there were those in the crowd who had lived
15:37to see Christ's kingdom established, he was referring to the germination of this little
15:42seed with the resurrection, the witness of the Holy Spirit, and the coming of the power
15:48of the Lord that drives forward and feeds the vine of his church.
15:56We do not know who it was who asked the question, Lord, will only a few be saved?
16:04Neither can we be sure of his motive, for there are three possibilities.
16:10Firstly, to try and trap Jesus. If Jesus were to reply that there would only be a few, then
16:16he would be accused of being too hard, and all the Jewish establishment argued that there
16:21would be a place for all Jews in the world to come. On the other hand, if he were to
16:28refute
16:28the suggestion, he could be accused of being too lenient. Secondly, the possibility exists
16:35that the question was asked from some form of genuine curiosity. Perhaps there had been a debate
16:41in the crowd about this, and they had decided to put the question to Jesus.
16:46Finally, the question could have been one of admiration. Jesus was such a holy man, how could
16:54any measure up to his standard?
17:00Interestingly, Jesus did not answer the question, but provided an illustration of a house where
17:05the door had been locked and the people were outside waiting to enter. The head of the household
17:13told the crowd to go away because he did not know who they were, despite their claims of
17:18friendship. We are told that the kingdom of God will be like this. Many will attempt to
17:25enter, but not be able to do so.
17:31The key to this passage lies in verse 24. Make every effort to enter through the narrow
17:38door. How might we then enter? First, we must be baptized and accept Christ as our salvation.
17:47Having done so, we must not work and then rest on our laurels, but we must strive, work, suffer
17:55even, leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to follow God in our lives, in our prayers and
18:01in our meditations. It is not a bed going through the motions of Christianity, attending church
18:09and taking the Eucharist, perhaps even listening to sermons. Or verse 26 tells us that even if
18:16we eat and drink with him and listen to him in the street, he will not know us.
18:23Let us turn this around completely and ask ourselves, how well do we know him? Is he
18:31invited into our homes? Do we walk with him in the park in the quiet of the evening? Do
18:36we talk to him constantly during the day? Can we feel his spirits moving in our lives?
18:43If the answer is yes, brilliant, fantastic, but do not stop these exercises, but redouble
18:50them. If the answer is no, get started. It's not too late, yet. Please, carry verse 24 in
19:01your hearts and minds, and always make every effort.
19:08Jesus at this time was travelling in Galilee, and had attracted a significant following.
19:14We can only speculate on the motives of these Pharisees in today's reading. For one thing
19:20is certain, they absolutely did not have the welfare of Jesus on their minds. Herod was
19:28the ruler of Galilee, with the permission of the Roman governor of Judea, Pilate. So long
19:35as Jesus remained in Galilee, he was therefore at risk from Herod as he had been from John
19:40the Baptist. We do not know what Herod's interest in Jesus truly was. Almost certainly there was
19:47a curiosity. Just as he had been curious of John the Baptist, and even after he had arrested
19:54John, Herod had been unwilling to go through the execution. In chapter 23, we read of Jesus
20:02being sent before Herod by Pilate for questioning. But Herod was either unwilling or unable to
20:09find a reason for his execution. But yet, Herod was a threat to Jesus, but more of a threat
20:19to his mission than to his life. More likely, these Pharisees wanted Jesus back in Judea,
20:26where they felt more confident of obtaining a death sentence from Pilate, who had been lent
20:31on by the rulers of the temple. It was, after all, a coincidence that Herod would be in Jerusalem
20:38at the time of the arrest of Jesus.
20:43The response of Jesus was simple. He had to continue with his work, where and as he needed.
20:52In time, he would indeed head to Jerusalem, for that was where his destiny would lie. However,
20:59he would not return there until the time was right. He knew that Jerusalem was the real danger
21:05to him. And he would not be venturing there again, until it was time to celebrate the Passover.
21:11And he would enter the city of a donkey, with this people shouting, Hosanna!
21:21Let us pray. Grant we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace,
21:31that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind. Through
21:39Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
21:48May the Lord bless us and keep us from all evil, bringing us to everlasting life. Amen.
22:01Amen.
22:02Amen.
22:02Amen.
22:02Amen.
